Healthcare Software Testing information

What is a healthcare software testing?

A Healthcare Software Testing job involves evaluating medical software applications to ensure they function correctly, securely, and in compliance with healthcare regulations. Testers verify features such as patient data management, electronic health records (EHR), and medical device integration. They conduct functional, performance, security, and compliance testing to meet industry standards like HIPAA and FDA guidelines. The role requires knowledge of healthcare workflows, testing methodologies, and automation tools to ensure software reliability and patient safety.

What are common challenges faced in healthcare software testing roles?

Healthcare software testers often encounter unique challenges like verifying compliance with strict industry regulations (such as HIPAA or FDA guidelines), ensuring high data accuracy, and validating complex integrations with medical devices or health data platforms. Testers must also adapt to evolving standards and address the critical need for patient safety and data privacy throughout the software development lifecycle. Collaborating closely with developers, business analysts, and healthcare professionals helps ensure software meets real-world clinical requirements. Overcoming these challenges can be rewarding, as it directly supports safer, more effective healthcare solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in healthcare software testing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Healthcare Software Testing, a strong understanding of software QA methodologies, test case development, and healthcare industry regulations (such as HIPAA) is essential, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automated testing tools (like Selenium or QTP), bug tracking systems, and certifications such as ISTQB or CSTE are highly valuable. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are key soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills ensure accurate, regulatory-compliant software testing that safeguards patient data and supports the delivery of reliable healthcare solutions.

Job description

CLEAR is building THE secure identity company of the future. Our mission is to make experiences safer and easier-physically and digitally. With more than 43 million Members and a growing network of partners across the world, CLEAR's secure identity platform is transforming the way people live, work, and travel. Whether it's at the airport, stadium, or throughout your everyday life, CLEAR unlocks the magic of frictionless experiences.
As a Senior Fullstack Software Engineer on CLEAR's Healthcare team, you will build and scale secure, interoperable identity and data solutions that connect patients, providers, and partners. You'll operate at the intersection of modern web platforms, healthcare interoperability standards, and high-assurance identity systems powering frictionless, trusted healthcare experiences nationwide.
A brief highlight of our tech stack:
  • Python / React / Typescript
  • AWS cloud

What you'll do:
  • Design and deliver secure, scalable fullstack solutions that integrate with enterprise EHR systems and national health information exchange frameworks
  • Build and maintain healthcare data integrations leveraging FHIR (RESTful APIs/JSON) and HL7 v2 messaging to enable compliant, real-time data exchange
  • Develop identity resolution and patient matching capabilities using identifiers such as MRNs and NPIs to ensure integrity across disparate clinical systems
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, Product, and Health Information Management teams to implement compliant, audit-ready workflows for regulated healthcare processes
  • Collaborate with external vendors (e.g., Epic Technical Services) to troubleshoot integration issues, manage deployments across TST/PRD environments, and ensure production reliability

How you'll measure success:
  • Successful delivery and stability of FHIR/HL7 integrations across healthcare partners
  • Reduction in data integrity issues related to patient matching and identity resolution
  • High system uptime and successful production deployments across tiered clinical environments
  • Audit readiness and compliance adherence for regulated workflows (e.g., EPCS, identity assurance requirements)

What you're great at:
  • 6+ years of fullstack software engineering experience building scalable web applications and APIs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in healthcare interoperability standards, including FHIR (REST/JSON) and working knowledge of HL7 v2 event-driven messaging
  • Experience navigating national health information exchange frameworks such as TEFCA, QHINs, or Carequality
  • Practical experience integrating with enterprise EHR systems-ideally Epic-via web service layers such as Interconnect
  • Ability to manage secure API authentication, service accounts (e.g., Epic EMP records), and audited system-to-system communication
  • Experience promoting software across tiered clinical environments, including Testing (TST) and Production (PRD)
  • Knowledge of high-assurance identity standards (e.g., NIST IAL2), biometric validation, and document verification workflows
  • Familiarity with regulated healthcare security requirements, including EPCS and audit logging standards
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including working alongside HIM teams and external vendor support to resolve integration challenges
  • Articulating technical concepts to a mixed audience of technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborating and mentoring less experienced members of the team
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Curiosity about technology, belief in constant learning, and ability to be autonomous to figure out what's important

Our process:
We keep a swift process with shorter timelines that make the best use of everyone's time. Our process is usually completed in about 3 weeks. Here's what you can expect:
Recruiter Call → Zoom Technical Screen → Onsite Panel Interviews → Final Manager Conversations → Offer
How You'll be Rewarded:
At CLEAR, we help YOU move forward - because when you're at your best, we're at our best. You'll work with talented team members motivated by our mission of making experiences safer and easier. Located in New York City, our Headquarters offers close collaboration with and access to a hands-on senior leadership team, a bright and energetic space with an open concept, and plenty of conference rooms and casual co-working spaces.
