Responsibilities

Analyzes all aspects of hospital management and operations for potential improvement opportunities.  Conducts routine to moderate operational or financial analysis in the areas of process improvement, productivity standards development, performance monitoring, and resource allocation and scheduling.  This position requires a self-starter who has the ability to manage multiple priorities and to work with only general supervision on assigned projects and activities.  The individual must demonstrate tact and diplomacy in situations of conflict and controversy and must have excellent communication and presentation skills.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts routine to moderate process or operational improvement projects with assistance as needed. Works with management, departmental and interdepartmental staff in identifying operational problems and inefficiencies, assists in the development and evaluation of alternatives and improvements, and assists in the establishment of implementation plans.
  • Develops and maintains productivity standards for hospital activities to be used in determining and evaluating staffing patterns, personnel utilization, and required costs. Recommends staffing levels and skill mix distribution based on developed standards and comparative information, as appropriate.  Review biweekly and monthly productivity reports within one day of processing for all assigned departments. 
  • Reviews, analyzes, and processes assigned position control forms. Reviews departmental budget, productivity standards, and staffing.  Makes recommendations regarding the appropriateness of requests for additions or changes to staff.  Makes appropriate changes to productivity systems.
  • Processes daily, biweekly, or monthly productivity as assigned. Collects all statistics as needed from internal and external sources.  Collects actual hours information from various data sources and loads into productivity system.  Prepares and distributes all assigned reports related to productivity.  Reviews productivity for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Understands and maintains accuracy of all volume's sources including Charge Level, Manual, Surgery data, Radiology HCPCS, and Census data. Identifies opportunities to improve data sources as part of standards development, as appropriate.
  • Serves as a technical advisor and internal consultant to all hospital management and staff on the use of productivity management tools and techniques, analytical techniques, and statistical applications.
  • Ability to abstract data from productivity management systems in order to complete productivity management projects. Review data for accuracy and reasonableness before presenting it to management.
  • Assists with the development of the annual staffing budget for all entities. Reviews budgets for assigned departments.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED

     

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Health Systems Engineering, Health Care Administration, Organizational Development, a health-related profession, or another related field.
  • Proficient in the use and application of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • PREFERRED

  • Previous experience in management engineering, industrial engineering, operations improvement, CQI activities, or health care consulting.
  • Working knowledge of other microcomputer applications including Access database applications, HRMS, and other financial systems.
  • Previous experience in working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and microcomputer applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
