Job description

Job Title: Senior Analytics Engineer

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Health Union powers the first and largest community-based activation and data platform, transforming healthcare by providing unparalleled support, information, and validation for millions navigating complex health conditions and their care teams. With over 125+ condition-specific online communities and 15 years of community leadership, Health Union's authentic engagements fuel the company's robust suite of endemic media, influencer marketing, market research, and data solutions, driving proven outcomes for patients, HCPs, and brands.

Position Overview:

At Health Union, data isn't just a resource - it's the foundation of how we understand our business and serve our communities. The Analytics Engineering team sits at the heart of that mission, transforming raw data into trusted insights that empower decision-makers across the organization. We work across a modern data stack - dbt, Looker, and Snowflake - to bridge the gap between complex data systems and the people who rely on them every day.

We're looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join a collaborative team and help take our data capabilities to the next level. In this role, you'll own meaningful work end-to-end: translating nuanced business requirements into robust, well-documented data models and turning those models into polished, intuitive Looker dashboards that stakeholders actually love to use.

You'll also partner with the Data Platforms team on building and evolving our data quality monitoring systems, ensuring that issues are caught and resolved long before they ever reach a dashboard. In a role where trust is everything, you'll be a key guardian of that trust.

This isn't a heads-down, solo-contributor position. You'll be a connector - working shoulder-to-shoulder with business analysts across the organization, partnering with our Data Platforms team on everything from ingestion to transformation readiness, and stepping in directly with stakeholders when data questions or issues arise. If you thrive at the intersection of technical rigor and cross-functional partnership, this is the role for you.

What You Do:

Data Modeling & Transformation

  • Design, build, and maintain dbt data models that serve as the foundation for business intelligence and decision support solutions across Health Union
  • Translate business requirements, brought to you primarily by data analysts and product owners, into well-structured, documented, and tested transformation logic
  • Collaborate with the Data Platforms team to define what data needs to be extracted and loaded from source systems, and validate that source data is structured for maximum clarity and utility
  • Contribute to architectural and design decisions alongside your team and manager

Looker Development

  • Build and maintain Looker explores and models that give stakeholders clear, trustworthy views of the business
  • Partner with analysts to understand their reporting needs and translate them into scalable Looker solutions
  • Ensure explores are performant, well-organized, and easily understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences

Data Quality

  • Contribute to the enhancement of our existing data quality monitoring systems, with the goal of catching issues before they impact business stakeholders
  • Establish processes and standards that raise the overall reliability of the information in Looker dashboards
  • Design and implement a more robust dbt test framework, building on what exists today

Collaboration & Issue Resolution

  • Serve as a senior technical resource for analysts and other stakeholders, helping to diagnose and resolve data issues as they arise
  • Work within a Kanban process to manage and prioritize Analytics Engineering work transparently and efficiently
  • Help raise the technical capabilities of the Analytics Engineering team through code review, documentation, and knowledge sharing

What You Bring:

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in an Analytics Engineering or similar role
  • Deep knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling approaches
  • Advanced proficiency with dbt, particularly around testing, documentation, and model design best practices
  • Strong LookML development skills, including complex joins, aggregations and performance optimization
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL in a cloud data warehouse environment; experience with Snowflake preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business questions and stakeholder needs into data models and reporting solutions
  • Effective use of AI tools to accelerate development
  • Experience with or strong instincts around data quality monitoring and observability
  • Deep understanding of data warehouse and business intelligence system design principles
  • Clear communicator who is comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams
  • Highly motivated to work autonomously, with strong organizational and time management skills

Nice to Have

  • Python scripting experience
  • Background in health, pharmaceutical, or online publishing data
  • Familiarity with Kanban or similar lightweight delivery frameworks

Annual base salary for positions at this level and job group is $95,000 - $120,000, and your base pay will depend on the qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies required for this job.

At Health Union, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range that provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.

In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, a professional development budget, and paid time off available to full-time employees upon hire. You will also be granted time off for designated company-paid holidays, summer Fridays, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
