Description
The Adjunct Instructor will teach Medical Terminology courses while delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction that supports student success and the college's mission. Prepare and maintain course materials, syllabi, attendance, grades, and required reports; utilize innovative teaching methods and learning technologies, including the LMS; update course content as needed; and foster an inclusive, professional learning environment. Maintain effective communication with students, faculty, staff, and community partners while demonstrating strong organizational, problem-solving, computer, and interpersonal skills, commitment to confidentiality, and adherence to the mission of Durham Technical Community College and the North Carolina Community College System.

Examples of Duties
  1. Teach Medical Terminology courses as determined by the terms of the employment contract, the director's semester staffing plans, program-specific needs, the general needs of the college, and the current teaching load guidelines;
  2. Provide quality instruction at all times, teaching classes for the entire class period, and properly covering course materials and competencies as specified in course outlines. Additional duties include:
    1. Preparing objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance policies, and course syllabi to be distributed at the first class meeting.
    2. Providing supervisor with syllabi, objectives and course outlines for each class.
    3. Being well prepared for each class.
    4. Keeping accurate attendance and grade records.
    5. Turning in reports, final grades, and other forms on time.
    6. Using various and innovative teaching techniques where applicable.
    7. Returning homework assignments and exams on a timely basis.
    8. Revising course content and objectives as required.
    9. Making suggestions to supervisor regarding textbooks, software, instructional materials, supplies and/or equipment needs.
  3. Maintain professional awareness and currency of important Information Technology issues, incorporating them into instruction in a manner consistent with course outlines and the plan of study.
  4. Use various instructional, computer, and distance learning technologies through the LMS to provide contemporary presentation of course material where appropriate.
  5. Teach assigned courses with special attention to the college's mission, its commitment to the open-door philosophy, and student success.

Minimum Qualifications
The instructor must have an Associate's degree in Applied Science, Nursing, Public Health Bachelor's degree in Health Science or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Anatomy, Physiology, or Biology preferred.
Work Experience:
At least three years of teaching experience in health-related topics, Medical Terminology preferred. A combination of education, work experience, and credentials may be considered.

Normal Working Hours:
Scheduled meeting times, course preparation, grading responsibilities, and student consultations are included as part of contracted duties. Specific work hours will be determined based on class schedules and in coordination with the supervisor.
