What is the best paying job in insurance?

In the insurance industry, executive roles such as Chief Underwriting Officer or Chief Risk Officer tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures annually. These positions require extensive experience, leadership skills, and often advanced certifications like CPCU or ARM, and they typically involve strategic decision-making and oversight of large teams or portfolios.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

High-paying jobs that can reach $4,000 a week without a degree often include roles such as sales managers, real estate brokers, commercial pilots, and skilled trades like electricians or plumbers with experience. These positions typically require specialized skills, certifications, or extensive experience rather than formal college degrees.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in health insurance, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in health insurance often encounter challenges such as navigating complex regulations, addressing customer concerns about coverage, and keeping up with frequent policy updates. Managing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and ongoing training on industry changes. Working collaboratively with underwriters, claims specialists, and regulatory teams helps ensure accurate policy administration and responsive customer service.

What is the easiest healthcare job that pays well?

A healthcare job that is often considered easier and pays well is medical billing and coding. It typically requires certification, can be done remotely, and involves administrative tasks rather than direct patient care. These roles usually have flexible schedules and do not require extensive clinical training.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Health Insurance Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Health Insurance Specialist, you need a solid understanding of medical billing, coding procedures, and insurance regulations, often supported by a relevant certification such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Familiarity with claims processing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and industry-specific databases is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help specialists resolve discrepancies and assist clients effectively. These skills ensure accurate claim management, regulatory compliance, and excellent customer service in a complex, fast-paced industry.

Job description

Health Insurance Underwriter

Description:

This position will interact with all members of our staff as well as many clients. The primary challenges are the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time, the ability to interact with people with varied personalities and communication styles, and the flexibility to adjust resources as needed. Training and support are provided both corporately and locally. This position will have minimal travel requirements, if any. We offer a unique opportunity for training and experience providing the best of both worlds: a flexible local office that recognizes individual value within a large, national firm that gives stability and structure.

At Milliman we strive to deliver the best products and services so that people can live for today and plan for tomorrow with confidence. We are looking for someone to partner with us in that mission.

Some of the specific duties are listed below:

  • Prepare rating and plan design quotes within Milliman's underwriting models
  • Ensure proposals are of highest accuracy and delivered on time
  • Collaborate with clients to gather additional information needed for underwriting decisions or to explain underwriting outcomes
  • Coordinate with Sr. Leadership and Account Management for complex situations
  • Provide feedback with opportunities for improvement in our rating models, processes or client interaction
  • Preparing client deliverables (reports, letters, presentations) primarily with MS Excel
  • Responding to client requests for advice, information, explanations, or schedules through phone and e-mail
  • Working with large insurance carriers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United HealthCare, Aetna and Cigna to collect data and other reports

Who we are looking for:

  • Trend-setters. Innovation is at the core of our DNA, and that stems from the work ethic of our people. We leverage our experience, client feedback and technology to change the landscape of health insurance with new and extraordinary ideas.
  • Future leaders. We take the time to invest in our people and encourage them to deepen skillsets and broaden abilities. We will always have new opportunities and responsibilities for those who want to assume them.
  • Relationship builders. We are fanatical about serving our customers leading to their success. We are looking for someone with strong communication skills to create dynamic relationships, both internally and externally
  • Confident professionals. We aim for 100% in everything we do, which means being accurate, on-time and on-point for our customer’s needs, while maintaining a professional image consistent with Milliman’s brand.

Milliman Omaha is an office of intelligent, hard-working, creative minds and we are anything but corporate. Our unique structure allows for the best of both worlds: a flexible local office that recognizes individual value within a large, national firm that gives stability and structure. We offer an environment conducive to building strong relationships, while allowing independence for each person to gauge their success.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional administrative, organization and business skills. Friendly and engaging personality that enjoys meeting various types of people from all areas of the country.
  • Natural attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently within a team-based environment
  • Flexibility with a customer first attitude
  • Able to manage priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention and compliance to policies and procedures
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities
  • Skill in deriving information where it is not immediately evident
  • 0-2 years of previous experience in underwriting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field

Location:

This position is based out of the Milliman office in Omaha, Nebraska. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite full-time.

Benefits:
