These students learn about medical coding, health data analytics, electronic health records, and healthcare privacy laws. The goal of HIM students is to gain the skills needed to ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and security of health information, which is vital for quality patient care and regulatory compliance. Upon graduation, they are prepared for various roles in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and other health-related organizations.

Health Information Management students typically participate in a variety of practical experiences, such as internships, simulated health record projects, and data management exercises. These activities often involve working with electronic health record systems, coding patient data, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Students may also collaborate with healthcare professionals in hospitals or clinics, gaining real-world insight into how health information is collected, maintained, and protected. These hands-on opportunities are designed to prepare students for a smooth transition into professional HIM roles after graduation.
