Job description

Position: Health Assistant with Front Office Responsibilities

Location is ASE West, 5200 Sequoia Dr. NW, Albuquerque NM 87112

Pay Schedule: ASE Hourly Front Office Employees (Non-Exempt) Payment Schedule

Position Purpose:
Responsible for implementation of health programs, health counseling with students, parents, and school personnel, provision of preventative health services, augmentation of health education programs, and liaison with the school community. Provides administrative and clerical support for the front office, correspondence, public relations, and information dissemination. 

Essential Functions:

  • Understands and supports the mission, vision, and values of Albuquerque School of Excellence to properly represent our school with the public.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding staff, student, and school-related issues and information, including medical records.
  • Participates in the formulation of campus health program goals and objectives, to include disinfecting (cleaning) practices.
  • Provides direct health care, emergency first aid and care, and related health services, to include screening for illness according to ASE and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Provides preventative health care by: providing appraisals, screening programs, referral and follow up; recognizing, reporting, and using control measures on communicable diseases; and monitoring and providing follow up on immunization needs.
  • Provides families with information on health and medical resources and assists families to access medical care for injuries as well as communicable diseases.
  • Conducts health counseling and follows through on health problems as needed. Refers students to Administration and Counseling, as needed.
  • Conducts instruction on bleeding control, dental and developmental health, CPR, and other health topics as needed for parents, students, and staff.
  • Serves as a resource to staff regarding health instruction.
  • Maintains and submits Student Immunization Records. Contacts parents regarding immunization requirements.
  • Performs state mandated student screenings, including  testing, and submits results to the state as required.
  • Communicates with other building personnel and administrators per Assistant Principal and Principal directive.
  • Maintains cleanliness (for infection control), organization, and appearance of the health office with best routines and practices associated with a busy, productive and smoothly run medical office.
  • Answers telephones, screens, and directs calls. Takes and relays messages. Deals with queries from the public.
  • Resolves most questions and problems, and refers complex issues to appropriate levels.
  • Provides assistance to students, parents, teachers, and visitors. Writes permission slips for students, as necessary.
  • Greets and directs people entering school to the correct destination. Monitors visitor access and maintains security awareness.
  • Maintains complete, accurate student medical files (hard copy and electronic) to include vaccination status. Updates records in a timely manner. Enters data for new and previous students.
  • Uses effective, positive interpersonal communication skills. Coordinates schedule with other Front Office personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Administration. Direct supervisor is Principal.

Qualifications:
Education:   High School Diploma or GED
                      First Aid and CPR certification, and NMPED Health Assistant Training and License (can be obtained after selection). 
                      Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree is preferred. 
Experience: Successful medical and/or school experience is preferred.
