CNC Set Up-Lathes Operator: Rockford, IL
Our customer in Rockford, Illinois is seeking motivated individuals to join their growing team. As CNC Set Up-Lathes Operator, you will be responsible for set-up and operate a variety of manual and automatic Centerless grinders, and Roll-Thread machines.
 
Responsibilities of the CNC Set Up-Lathes Operator:
  • Set up, operate, and make advanced adjustments on CNC equipment including lathes and mills across single- and multi-axis machines, as well as single-, turret-, and multi-turret systems such as Mazak, Doosan, INDEX, and Nakamura.
  • Develop, prepare, optimize, and maintain CNC programs, tooling, fixturing, and setup procedures to maximize efficiency and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex CNC machine issues to reduce downtime and ensure continuous production flow.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections; use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify tolerances and specifications.
  • Record production data, machine performance, and material usage in ERP or production-tracking systems.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to CNC operators and tenders; assist with training on parts, processes, and machine setups.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing setup time, improving machining methods, increasing productivity, and enhancing quality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including setup sheets, monitoring logs, and scrap/surplus records; ensure daily preventative maintenance is completed
  •  Follow all company safety protocols; maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; lift materials/products up to approximately 50 lbs. (occasionally up to 75 lbs.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements of the CNC Set Up-Lathes Operator:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or GED, or significant relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience with lathes/mills, including single-axis, multi-axis, and turret-based equipment such as Mazak, Doosan, INDEX, or Nakamura.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gauges; able to use basic hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, and impacts.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part schematics, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions.
 
Pay for CNC Set Up-Lathes Operator: $25-37.50/hour.
