Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of organizing, developing, coaching, and leading a competitive collegiate clay target sports program. This includes recruiting high-caliber student athletes, designing training programs across multiple disciplines (trap, skeet, sporting clays), ensuring strict adherence to firearms safety protocols, managing a budget, fundraising, and fostering academic excellence and personal growth among team members.
This position reports to the Director, Shooting Sports Education Center.
Responsibilities

• Recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes to build and sustain a competitive coeducational clay target program that supports academic achievement, personal development, and competitive success
• Plan, organize, and supervise practices, training activities, and competitions, utilizing progressive coaching techniques, industry best practices, and comprehensive firearms safety and risk management protocols
• Lead the team in intercollegiate competition, including scheduling, travel coordination, event preparation, and oversight of student-athlete conduct, while ensuring compliance with University policies and governing body regulations (e.g., ACUI, SCTP)
• Maintain the highest standards of firearms safety, range operations, and program compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, certification requirements, and recognized shooting sports safety standards
• Lead fundraising, donor engagement, and program advancement efforts to secure resources supporting team operations, travel, equipment, and the University's long-term program sustainability
• Develop and maintain partnerships with shooting facilities, competition venues, youth shooting organizations, alumni, industry partners, and community stakeholders to support program growth, recruitment, and operational needs
• Manage all program operations and resources, including equipment inventory, firearms and ammunition accountability, budgeting, purchasing, facility agreements, travel arrangements, recordkeeping, and required reporting related to participation, competition results, and incidents
• Preserves and cultivates student leadership opportunities and operational input when planning competitive direction of the team. Fosters a collaborative relationship with the clay target registered student organization
• Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches, volunteers, and support personnel

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years experience as a high performance coach

Other Required Qualifications

• NSCA/NSSA Level II or III coach certification or equivalent

Required Experience

• Two (2) years experience coaching sporting clays, trap, or skeet

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications

• CPR/AED/First Aid certified instructor
• NSCA/NSSA Referee
• Range safety officer

Preferred Educational Qualifications

• Master's Degree
• Experience hosting successful clay target tournaments
• Experience working in an educational setting
• Experience managing and operating a clay target club or organization

Preferred Experience

• 3-5 Years of Experience

Proposed Salary
Commensurate up to $60,000
This is an exempt, contractual position paid on a monthly basis.
