Lead Video Technician - BMG Orlando
Lighting, Video Projections and Special Effects
Full-Time Position
Blue Man Group Orlando is looking for a full-time Lead Video Technician.
The Video Technician is the main support for the Lighting & Video Head of Department. In addition to running shows, the Lead oversees all technical and safety aspects of the Video equipment including performing general troubleshooting and maintenance. The Technician participates in the training and scheduling of all members of the department in conjunction with the Lighting & Video HOD. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. The ability to work with established deadlines is required. The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required. All crew positions work cross-departmentally and are not solely restricted to projects within their department.
Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead the Video Department for the local production;

  • Assist in the training of all members of the Video Department and provide ongoing training for members of the department to ensure cue consistency and safety;

  • Maintain effective systems for clear communication of notes, changes, scheduling, and other company information to members of the Video Department;

  • Running shows each week on the Video track;

  • During the running of the show, perform all duties as outlined on the run sheets (including preset, show cues, turnover, and post-show) in a safe, professional, timely and efficient manner;

  • Oversee department run sheets and show cues, including any necessary changes. Prepare regular updates to run sheets as needed;

  • Participate in all show contingency and emergency evacuation rehearsals;

  • Maintain and oversee all technical elements of the show under the Video Department jurisdiction;

  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise;

  • Maintain open communication about the inventory of equipment and supplies, as well as any show notes, technical problems or concerns;

  • Oversee the maintenance, cleaning, and organization of workspaces;

  • Adhere to safety rules and regulations for locality and department;

  • Support gigs, trainings, rehearsals, and marketing events;

  • Participate in load-in and load-out and lend assistance to other departments as needed;

  • All other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required;

  • Extensive experience andknowledge of video systems and running shows is required, as wellas technical run crew and some rigging;

  • Theatrical video experiencepreferred, but not required;

  • Self-motivated, innovative and enjoy working in afast-pacedand creative environment;

  • Leadership and project management skills;

  • Continuously look for ways to simplify and improve work processes to achieve better results;

  • Organizational skills a must;

  • Knowledge of Lighting systems is a plus;

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle technical issues swiftly during a live show;

  • Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;

  • Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;

  • Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;

  • At least 5 years of previous experience or in a similar environment;

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;

  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Arts or a similar field; or equivalent relevant work experience;

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Ability to clearly and effectively communicate via headset;

  • Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. The compensation is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided upon elements related, but not limited to: skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
