Working with the Head of Social Media and the Head of Podcast Series, the Senior Producer, Video drives the execution of video development, production, and publishing across platforms, ensuring editorial quality and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
  • Originate and develop pitches across various format videos, in collaboration with department heads and other producers
  • Partner with producers to guide research, sharpen angles, and resolve pre-production questions
  • Review content across slate and deliver thoughtful, actionable feedback that elevates storytelling and maintains a consistently high creative standard
  • Serve as a key liaison between department heads, producers, and editors, translating high-level editorial priorities into structured, usable notes that guide the edit
  • Collaborate with the Head of Production on scheduling, budgeting, crewing, shoot planning, and look and feel of Free Press video content
  • Collaborate with the Head of Post Production to manage delivery timelines, workflows, and resource allocation
  • Oversee, assign, and edit copy for video posts across Substack, YouTube, and RSS platforms, ensuring editorial voice and accuracy across every episode
  • Manage video release calendars, ensuring strategic scheduling in coordination with Editorial

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years leading production on fast-turn digital video, news podcasts, or similar editorial content
  • Strong editorial judgment, with a track record of turning complex ideas into compelling video
  • Deep knowledge of the media landscape and a strong instinct for what will resonate right now
  • Experience working directly with on-camera talent, producers, and editors and shaping their output
  • Fluency with basic production tools and workflows (e.g., microphones, cameras, Premiere, platforms like Riverside)
    Strong post-production sensibility, with the ability to collaborate effectively with editors on pacing, structure, tone, and visual style, while translating stakeholder feedback into clear creative direction
  • Ability to operate at a fast pace, including responding to breaking news outside standard hours when needed
  • Have experience and a hunger to use AI tools, learning from them to improve both tactical and strategic choices for the role
  • Passion for The Free Press's mission and curiosity about ideas across the political and cultural spectrum

$170,000 - $200,000 a year
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
