JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Software Development (internally known as the Application Development Manager (ADM)) is responsible for aligning technology delivery with business objectives across the Claims domain. This role serves as both a hands-on technical leader and an Agile Program Manager (APM), driving the design, development, implementation, and operation of software solutions while leading Agile delivery across globally distributed engineering teams.
Created to transition day-to-day ADM responsibilities from the Claims Domain Owner, this position will work closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality technology solutions.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, solution design, Guidewire configuration and integrations, cloud implementations, production support, and release management.
The incumbent will guide engineering leads, developers, and contract resources, serving as a key decision-maker for technical direction, delivery execution, and solutioning. The ideal candidate combines deep Guidewire ClaimCenter expertise, strong Property & Casualty insurance knowledge, hands-on development and architecture experience, and the ability to lead teams through influence while partnering effectively with business stakeholders.
Work Arrangement: This position is preferably based in either our Jersey City, NJ or Raleigh, NC office and follows a hybrid schedule of three days per week onsite. Strong candidates who are unable to meet the hybrid expectation may be considered for a remote work arrangement.
Essential RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Responsible for effective and timely development of new and/or enhanced systems/technologies.
  • Monitors all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle and Production Support service levels. Ensures high level technical support is provided.
  • Works closely with POs. SOMs, DO, IT management and business to identify and maximize opportunities to use technology to improve business processes
  • Oversees business analysis, development work and quality assurance of projects for assigned systems/technologies.
  • Collaborate effectively at all levels to prepare strategic plans. Ensures system requests tie into objectives of the company strategy map and budgets.
  • Contributes to the development of information technology, development standards, policies, processes and procedures to ensure consistent compatibility and integration throughout the company.
  • Continuously reviews the technology needs of supported business functions/processes relative to new technological developments and trends. Keeps abreast of the industry and emerging technology
  • Participates in vendor/strategic partner evaluations and monitors the relationship on an ongoing basis.
  • Leads and manages team to accomplish objectives through effective recruitment & selection, training & development, performance management and rewards & recognition.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Broad knowledge of software development techniques, processes, methods and best practices.
  • Proficiency with various programming languages used. Extensive experience in Guidewire Claims Center including GW contact Manager, the integration gateway apps and integrations related to Eg ISO, MSP etc Extensive knowledge in guidewire cloud set up, guidewire tools (test automation tools), monitoring etc
  • Guidewire Claims Center Ace Certified Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of P&C insurance products, applications, technologies. Strong understanding of Agile development methods and its application to company technology needs.
  • High level knowledge/expertise in development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale business applications.
  • Strong strategic decision making & long-term planning abilities to manage resources and develop efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation & consultative skills for effective collaboration with senior management.
  • Good general business acumen.

Education & Experience:
  • Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelor's degree and 10 to 12 years of related experience in software development & architecture design, including project management and business analysis.
  • 7 to 9 years of multiple implementation and support experience in Guidewire Claims center.
  • 5 or more years of management experience is required.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$110,100 -$170,600/year
  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
