What are we looking for?

The Head of Design is a visionary, execution-oriented leader who owns the entire design function at People Assurance. This is not a maintenance role, it's a transformation mandate. You will define and drive the design strategy across product, influence brand, and support all external-facing touchpoints, supporting a new standard for how People Assurance looks, feels, and connects with the people who use and encounter our products.

The ideal leader is hungry, change-oriented, and energized by building from the ground up. You've also done this before. You've taken a legacy product or brand and transformed it into something dramatically better, and you're ready to do it again with the full backing of executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Leadership & Vision

  • Shape and implement a cohesive design philosophy that elevates workflow efficiency, product functionality, and overall usability across the software portfolio.
  • Ensure core design principles and usability best practices are applied consistently across all product experiences.
  • Lead direct research with customers and prospects to understand needs, evaluate industry trends, and translate insights into clear recommendations. Partner with Product Management to prioritize and drive these improvements into the product
  • Serve as a trusted design advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
  • Support visual examples and executive presentations that articulate design transformation and 'how' we get there.
  • Define clear design standards and implement scalable design systems across all PA products and services.
  • Present design strategy, direction, and progress to leadership and key stakeholders on a regular cadence.
  • Establish a scalable design system and governance model that enables Product, Marketing, and other functions to leverage shared visual standards while maintaining clear ownership of their respective domains.

Product Design (UI/UX)

  • Own end-to-end product design experience, from discovery and wireframes to polished, production-ready UI.
  • Lead the transition from our legacy interface to a modern, intuitive, and scalable design system - elevating quality and accelerating delivery. This is the largest undertaking and priority of the role
  • Lead direct research with customers and prospects to understand needs, evaluate industry trends, and translate insights into clear recommendations. Partner with Product Management to prioritize and drive these improvements into the product
  • Define and maintain the design system and component library in close partnership with Engineering.
  • Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles are embedded in all product work.

Brand & External Presence

  • Partner with Marketing to evolve and maintain shared visual standards that create consistency between product experiences and external brand experiences.
  • Provide design guidance and consultation to ensure consistency across product and external experiences.
  • Support brand evolution in partnership with Marketing. Elevate our product brand to a position that signals trust, modernity, and market leadership.
  • Partner with Marketing to establish and evolve shared visual standards while maintaining clear ownership boundaries between product design and marketing execution

Change Management & Modernization

  • Lead the cultural and operational shift to design-led thinking across the organization.
  • Define and drive the roadmap for evolving our visual and UX standards from legacy to modern, with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Champion design as a competitive advantage, building internal advocacy and organizational fluency around design value.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • 6-8+ years of design experience in a SaaS environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior or lead design role.
  • Must have people management experience - team will flex from 6-10 designers
  • Demonstrated track record of modernizing a product UI - you have led a successful transition from legacy to modern design and can speak to the process and outcomes.
  • Full-spectrum design capability: you move fluidly between product/UX work and brand/visual identity without a drop in quality.
  • Experience building or scaling a design team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing talent.
  • Exceptional visual design skills and an uncompromising eye for detail. Your portfolio showcases this skillset.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate and sell a design vision to senior leadership.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity; you drive clarity and don't wait to be directed.

Preferred

  • Experience in HR tech, workforce management, compliance, or adjacent SaaS verticals.
  • Proficiency in Figma and experience building design systems at scale.
  • Background in high-growth or scale-up environments where pace and adaptability are essential.
  • Familiarity with front-end development workflows and collaborating closely with engineering teams.

Why Intertek People Assurance

  • A requirement to transform, not maintain, with the authority and scope to make a real, lasting impact.
  • Executive partnership and visibility; design is viewed as a strategic function, not a support role.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on building safer, more capable workforces at scale.
  • The opportunity to define a design legacy at a company in the middle of meaningful transformation.

Benefits Information

In addition to competitive compensation packages, when working with Intertek you can expect benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) with company match, generous vacation / sick time (PTO), tuition reimbursement and more.
