Sporting Goods Department Head
Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager or Supervisor on Duty
Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly, FULL-TIME
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide the best customer service and maximize sales through efficient execution of Company procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Help customers with special order requests and locate merchandise as well as inform customers of helpful product knowledge. Greeting customers within a ten-foot radius.
  2. Verify proper product rotation and basic stocking of merchandise in multiple departments.
  3. Must have basic knowledge of Farm amp; Home web-based Intranet and The Outfitter systems.
  4. Remove damaged merchandise from the floor as needed and review and correct outages and overstocks in order to supply proper inventory levels.
  5. Follow company guidelines for department merchandising and setting store ads and sale signage.
  6. Identify and display the latest items at designated locations with departmental management approval.
  7. Demonstrate strong merchandising presentation skills for in-aisles, end caps and displays.
  8. Ensure a safe and clean work environment while following loss prevention and safety procedures.
  9. Attend store and job-related meetings along with reviewing the F amp;H Weekly Update that is distributed to each store every Monday.
  10. Professionally communicate with Customers, Management, and all store employees.
  11. Follow all applicable Company, local, state, and federal guidelines.
  12. Assist with price changes, markdowns, and merchandise labeling.
  13. Operate cash registers and assist with customer carry-outs.
  14. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  15. Maintain and control organized stock room area.
  16. Complete required on-line Job Training available on our Outfitters website.
  17. Consistent attendance for regularly scheduled work shifts is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS-EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
  • Minimum age requirement for this position is 21 years old.
    • Illinois residents must carry a valid Firearm Owners Identification [F.O.I.D.] card.
    • Missouri/Iowa residents-must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must possess great customer service and communication skills.
  • Six months of previous retail experience is preferred.
  • Positive attitude with a passion for collaborating with Team Members that want to grow.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must occasionally engage in assisted lifting over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
