Job description

Position Title: Head Wrestling Coach
Reports To: Director of Athletics
Employment Status: Part-Time, Seasonal
FLSA Classification: Exempt

Position Description
The Walker School seeks a dedicated and experienced Head Wrestling Coach to lead the Varsity Wrestling Program. The Head Coach will provide leadership, instruction, and motivation to student-athletes while upholding the mission, vision, and core values of The Walker School. This individual will foster a positive, inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, character development, and competitive excellence.
Qualifying Characteristics
The ideal candidate will:
  • Demonstrate a passion for wrestling, coaching, and the overall development of student-athletes.
  • Serve as a positive role model, displaying integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Exhibit strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment that aligns with Walker's mission and core values of kindness, curiosity, dignity, and honor.
  • Prioritize academic balance while helping student-athletes achieve athletic and personal goals.

Essential Job Duties
  • Lead, organize, and oversee all aspects of the wrestling program, including practices, competitions, and team events.
  • Develop and implement effective training programs that focus on skill development, conditioning, and strategy.
  • Instruct student-athletes on the fundamental techniques, rules, and safety guidelines of wrestling.
  • Model and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for opponents, officials, and teammates.
  • Manage team communications with athletes, parents, athletic department staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Department to schedule competitions, secure transportation, and ensure compliance with GHSA regulations.
  • Supervise assistant coaches and support staff, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Support recruitment and retention of student-athletes into the wrestling program.
  • Uphold The Walker School's policies, procedures, and values in all aspects of the program
Core Qualifications
  • Previous successful coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level is preferred.
  • Knowledge of wrestling rules, strategies, and best practices in training and conditioning.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to connect with student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
