Reports to: Department Head of Buildings and Grounds
General Summary
Under immediate direction performs various tasks necessary to maintain the library buildings and grounds. Is responsible for general cleaning and minor maintenance duties in maintaining library building and grounds, and equipment in clean, orderly and functional condition. Receives oral and written orders from Department Head of Buildings and Grounds and other managerial staff.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Performs work according to standard procedure and by building's operational schedule.
  2. Uses cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior and exterior of the library building looking clean and professional.
  3. Cleans rooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, lounge, stairways and windows.
  4. Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floors.
  5. Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and blinds.
  6. Dusts furniture and equipment.
  7. Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors and sills.
  8. Makes minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  9. Performs touch up and finish painting.
  10. Empties wastebaskets.
  11. Replenishes restroom supplies.
  12. Replaces light bulbs.
  13. Sets up and tears down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and function rooms.
  14. Prepares rooms for use by Library Board and organizations.
  15. Clears snow from entrances and walkways.
  16. Cuts grass and maintains lawn as scheduled.
  17. Picks up and delivers supplies and materials to other library branch and reading rooms.
  18. Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  19. Opens and closes library building according to security procedures.
  20. Reports work accomplished orally or on written work order to supervisor.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties
  1. Participates in general cleaning, painting, and repair work.
  2. Uses hand tools and power tools in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.
  3. Assists in shipping and receiving of library supplies and materials.
  4. Provides assistance to officials, staff, visitors, and other employees as necessary.
  5. Checks building at beginning and end of shifts.
  6. Participates in building coverage by working evenings and Saturday rotation as required.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE:
High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and write. Prior housekeeping experience desired. Possess unrestricted driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: The skills and knowledge required would generally be obtained with previous experience in building cleaning and maintenance work.
Ability to fulfill detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Proven inventory control skills.
Reliable and able to work evenings and rotating weekends.
Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and convey a maximum of 50 pounds. Ability to bend at the knees, squat, climb ladders, bend at the waist, reach (extending hands and arms in any direction), handling (grasping, holding or turning objects), working with fingertips, and hearing sounds/communication.
