Job description

Project Details:
    • Chris stepping out and looking for someone to replace him on that. GE Aero > GE SaaS will be supporting the SaaS product lines, purely developing flight paths for airlines, flight paths stored on aircraft themselves. Small team of 7, the role would be siloed and reporting up to Iain. Seattle is where most of the team sits but they do 1 annual get-together. 12 month contract w/ possibility to renew. Team web scrapes so will setup automated flows but needs to be able to jump into the code if the website goes down that provide the updated data. SSL certificates will need to be updated once a year, Domino will need that updated, app gateway and security systems will need to be bypassed to get into the cloud platform. Might be better finding someone from smaller companies where they had to wear various hats vs large orgs where they might have been siloed. SFTP customer, prerelease 5 not as, 24/7 on call but vary rare - once a quarter. Apr 22 for the submission window deadline, will be sending the RFP out to other vendors - Iain will be out for 2 weeks
Job Summary

This role is responsible for the operational ownership, stability, and modernization of time-critical, flight-safety-related systems that support aviation customers globally. The engineer will own day-to-day operations across a diverse technology stack-including HCL Domino, Azure, automation pipelines, and customer-facing portals-while leading the transition of legacy and Domino-based solutions onto modern SaaS platforms, Azure services, and standard enterprise tools. This position plays a critical role in reducing operational, cyber, and single-SME risks, while ensuring continuity, reliability, and regulatory confidence in mission-critical aviation services.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Systems Ownership & Operational Stability
    • Maintain end-to-end operational responsibility for Airspace Efficiency systems and services, with a strong focus on availability, performance, and rapid issue resolution.
    • Ensure reliability of time-critical, flight-safety-related services across data ingestion, processing, storage, and customer-facing delivery.
    • Operate and support legacy Domino applications, automation scripts, integrations, and Azure- and VM-hosted components.
Portals, Data Pipelines & Automation
    • Operate and enhance customer-facing portals, including user, customer, and employee access management.
    • Maintain and improve automation for raw data retrieval, ingestion, processing, validation, and storage.
    • Support aviation data workflows such as NOTAM monitoring, alerting, and forecasting inputs.
Infrastructure, Integration & Security
    • Manage inbound and outbound email and SFTP integrations, including onboarding new customers and partners.
    • Configure and support infrastructure components such as VMs, file shares, firewalls, application gateways, storage accounts, web hosting, and SSL certificates.
    • Maintain secure SFTP configurations, including cipher updates and firewall/IP access changes.

Modernization & Migration Leadership
    • Assess existing Domino-based and legacy systems, documenting dependencies, workflows, risks, and operational pain points.
    • Define a target-state architecture using existing SaaS platforms, Azure services, and modern enterprise tools.
    • Develop and execute a phased modernization roadmap, prioritizing high-risk and flight-safety-critical services.
    • Design and implement modern integration patterns to replace Domino and Windows-based dependencies.
    • Deliver pilot migrations with dual-run, validation, and rollback strategies to minimize operational risk.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
    • Produce architecture designs, migration playbooks, and updated operational runbooks.
    • Provide hands-on knowledge transfer and training to permanent Airspace Efficiency and SaaS team members to ensure long-term sustainability post-engagement.
