The purpose of this job is to assist in providing research and data based behavior support services for students with severe and significant challenging behaviors which utilize principles of applied behavior analysis in natural and least restrictive environments, consult with classroom and school staff to implement behavior programs in everyday routines, and demonstrate student progress through the monitoring and graphing of behavioral data. This may include, but is not limited to, providing general physical assistance to students with various disabilities, assisting teachers with classroom projects/activities, providing short term classroom coverage for teachers, monitoring/data collection in academic and/or non-academic regular curriculum participation, and other general duties which support the provision of special education services.
Responsibilities
  • Experience/ training is required in providing behavior support and intervention to students with significantly challenging behaviors and in the areas of applied behavior analysis, including discrete trial instruction, prompt hierarchies, stimulus fading, differential reinforcement and extinction procedures, and the collection, monitoring, and graphing of behavioral data.
  • CPI training is necessary.
  • This position requires travel to serve system-wide programs throughout Hamilton County. Mileage outside of travel to/from base school and short term placements is logged and reimbursed according to HCDE daily rate.
  • Work collaboratively and in support of HCDE behavior analyst to provide direct behavior services to students.
  • Implement behavioral recommendations and programming on an ongoing basis while modeling and providing feedback to classroom staff.
  • Monitor and graph behavioral data to facilitate ongoing assessment of programming and support the IEP team decision making process.
  • Assist in developing and implementing materials specific to behavior plans and IEP goals and objectives including but not limited to visual supports, environmental manipulations, and behavioral charts and graphs for displaying and interpreting information to the IEP team.
  • Attends work regularly and arrives to work in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.

Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; basic technology skills required; general office/clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Has knowledge and skills to support the PreK-12 general curriculum. Must possess one of the following before reporting to work: (1) 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours; (2) An Associate's degree or higher; (3) passing score on PRAXIS for Parapro Exam. One year of experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
