Job Summary and Qualifications The Engineering Director acts as an internal subject matter expert (SME) for hospital MEP systems. This person is responsible for review of MEP designs for hospital capital projects to optimize performance and to reduce cost and waste. KPIs include but are not limited to operating efficiency, carbon emissions, water use, resilience, maintainability, replaceability, longevity, first cost

What you will do in this role:

  • Optimizing MEP designs for new projects
  • Act as internal subject matter expert on MEP systems as needed
  • Review and critique of MEP assessment reports
  • Review and critique of MEP design documents for greenfield hospitals, expansions & renovations, capital replacement/renewal/enhancement projects
  • Review of change orders
  • Track and report out on lessons learned from hospital design reviews
  • Provide SME support for MEP design guidelines continuous updates
  • Site investigation as needed to assist operations or consult on construction projects
  • Due diligence site visits for acquisitions
  • Travel max 25%

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC design AND 2+ years of MEP design OR energy plant operations required, healthcare experience preferred
  • Professional Engineer, EIT, or equivalent preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial or institutional level HVAC systems required including chillers and cooling tower, boilers, pumping systems
  • Working knowledge of electrical (normal and emergency), plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and sanitary systems preferred or ability to learn
  • Self-motivated problem-solvers only
  • Effective communication skills including public-speaking, slide presentations, writing of emails and reports, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point required
  • Familiarity with Power BI, e-Builder construction management platform, PDF creator/editors preferred but not required
