Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Lead acts as a dual-purpose champion for both operational integrity and external relations. This role is uniquely designed to balance 50% proactive safety leadership and 50% high-level customer service. You will be the face of Martin Marietta on-site, ensuring that every employee returns home safely while simultaneously ensuring that every customer, vendor, and contractor receives world-class service. By merging technical safety expertise with a "customer-first" mindset, you will facilitate a culture where compliance and excellence in service go hand-in-hand.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure site-wide adherence to MSHA and Martin Marietta’s internal "Guardian Angel" safety standards.
  • Conduct daily "high-visibility" safety walks and inspections to identify and mitigate physical and behavioral hazards.
  • Lead the reporting and investigation of any near-misses or incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Review truck washout areas for adequate drainage, walking surface, tracking pad, and lighting.
  • Facilitate site-specific safety orientations for new hires, contractors, and visitors, ensuring they are fully equipped to work safely in an asphalt/industrial environment.
  • Oversee the inspection and maintenance of safety equipment, including PPE, fire suppression systems, and first-aid supplies.
  • Assist management in developing and updating Safe Operating Procedures based on evolving site needs.
  • Facilitate and organize in-house safety meetings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and haulage contractors, resolving logistics issues or site access concerns with professionalism and urgency.
  • Maximize delivery efficiencies through customer focused coordination of site related events.
  • Anticipate the relocation of concrete placement pumps, areas of congestion, and communication with central dispatch as it pertains to the customer’s unload rate, agreed upon “hold” volumes and/or order back yardage.
  • Manage the check-in process for all external parties, ensuring a seamless, welcoming, and safe transition from the gate to the loading zone.
  • Mediate and resolve any disputes or service delays on-site, ensuring customers feel valued even during high-traffic or operational challenges.
  • Represent Martin Marietta’s values in every interaction, building long-term trust with local vendors and community stakeholders.
  • Act as a bridge between the sales team and site operations, providing real-time updates to customers regarding product availability and loading times.
  • Proactively gather customer feedback regarding site efficiency and safety, reporting insights to the management team to drive continuous improvement.
