Altom Transport | Harrison, OH

Altom Transport is seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic to help lead maintenance operations at our Harrison, Ohio terminal.

This is a working leadership role ideal for a senior technician who wants to take the next step-someone who can diagnose and repair heavy trucks while guiding other mechanics and keeping our fleet running safely and efficiently.

Altom Transport is a trusted carrier specializing in petroleum and chemical tanker transportation, where safety, reliability, and equipment uptime are critical to our operations.

What You'll Do

As the Lead Diesel Mechanic, you will play a key role in maintaining our fleet and supporting daily shop operations.

Shop Leadership
  • Assist with coordinating daily shop workflow
  • Support and guide mechanics on diagnostics and repairs
  • Promote and enforce safe shop practices
  • Conduct safety talks and maintain strong shop communication
  • Help maintain an organized and efficient shop environment
Fleet Maintenance
  • Diagnose and repair Class 8 tractors and tanker trailers
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections
  • Assist with complex mechanical, electrical, and air system repairs
  • Ensure equipment meets DOT and company safety standards
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation
Equipment Management
  • Perform yard checks to verify equipment readiness
  • Assist in scheduling preventative maintenance services
  • Work with parts vendors to ensure timely repairs
  • Help keep tools and equipment in safe working condition

Requirements

What We're Looking ForRequired
  • 3+ years of experience working on Class 8 trucks or heavy diesel equipment
  • Strong mechanical diagnostic and repair skills
  • Basic tools required for diesel repair work
  • Ability to assist and guide other technicians
  • Strong attention to safety and quality workmanship
Preferred
  • Experience working in a trucking or tanker fleet maintenance shop
  • Leadership or lead mechanic experience
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs
  • CDL is a plus
