Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineering Analysis: Conduct engineering analysis, simulations, and modeling to evaluate and optimize designs, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement in manufacturing processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement changes.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of designs, changes, and project progress, including engineering reports and project records.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, production, and maintenance teams to provide technical support and address engineering-related issues.
  • Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve technical challenges, troubleshoot issues, and support root cause analysis for manufacturing problems.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Design production Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA).  Write PLC code for event and data transfer to SCADA PC.
  • Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) with application software.
  • Design software for sales order entry, inventory tracking, W.I.P., and SCADA integration.
  • Design, develop and implement Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) utilizing software engineering skills.
  • Develop customized reports, queries, and forms to allow data input and distribution of data to managers, supervisors, quality engineers, SPC technicians, PCL lab technicians, and Business Team members using web development and programming software.
  • Work with Technology Managers, Director of Quality, and Quality Engineers to develop new features and justify changes to existing features of SCADA/MES systems.
  • Establish and build databases on servers and write stored procedures.
  • Travel to site; diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Travel frequently offsite to develop SCADA and MES systems.
  • Develop custom software applications necessary to integrate front-end business systems to production MES.
  • Set up print spooling software on SCADA servers and client PC.
  • Support on-line SCADA systems by developing systems to support office, home, and travel locations.
  • Design and oversee the purchase and installation of networking hardware, software, and cabling for new manufacturing installation or facility.
  • Maintain proficiency and learn new Structured Programming Languages.
  • Assist in the design and installation of wide area network (W.A.N.)
  • Write troubleshooting and operating SCADA manuals.
  • Design and oversee installation of electrical sensing and remote input devices.  Install and configure various operating systems on SCADA PCs.
  • Test PCs, printers, and networking hardware for SCADA applications.
  • Train all production shifts and relevant personnel to use SCADA system and customized reports.
  • Provide on call service for continuous production operations.
  • Visit machine supplier to review machine data acquisition and control PLC code prior to delivery (as needed).
  • Troubleshoot and scale components feeding signals into SCADA.
  • Support engineering department in resolving routine PC hardware and software problems.
  • Study and comprehend functions/operating procedures of production equipment interfacing with SCADA.
  • Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. 
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
  • Applying lean concepts, make and implement recommendations for process improvements that may involve a cross functional team.
  • Other duties consistent with the general nature and focus of the position and/or the goals and objectives of the department may be assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required with typically 5+ years of relevant experience or master’s degree in engineering required with typically 2+ years of experience or PhD in Engineering required with 0 years of relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated engineering experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment preferred.
    • Proficiency in AVEVA Wonderware, Microsoft Server Management Studio (SQL), and .Net a plus
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Capable of managing multiple projects.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Knowledgeable with manufacturing processes and materials.
    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles a plus.
    • Proficiency in relevant software tools for engineering and data analysis.

Based on region, the expected salary range(s) for this position is $78,704 to $131,173 USD.
