Job description

Ironworker - Build What Lasts

Set steel, hang decking, and erect the structural frame for hospitals, schools, distribution centers, and commercial buildings across the Sioux Falls region. Day work, home every night, strong crew, and a real path from ironworker to lead to foreman for those who want to grow. Most of our foremen came up from the ranks.

What You Will Do

  • Set steel and precast with the crew: columns, beams, joists, bridging, stairs, and metal decking.

  • Connect, bolt, and weld structural members into place.

  • Rig loads, signal the crane operator, and direct material flow on the deck.

  • Read plans, specifications, and shop drawings to lay out work accurately.

  • Unload and stack steel; place building materials to support the day's scope.

  • Take ownership of safety on every task. Speak up early. Look out for the crew.

  • Train newer ironworkers as you advance.

What You Bring

  • One to three years of steel or precast erection experience.

  • Comfort working at heights and in outdoor conditions year-round.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team.

  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and evidence of insurability preferred.

  • AWS 1.1 (3G, 4G ¾") welding certification on the SMAW process is a plus, not a requirement. We will help you earn it.

  • Equipment experience with man-lift, scissor lift, or forklift preferred.

  • Must be 18 or older to safely work in a construction environment.

Compensation

Sign-on and referral bonuses available.

What You Get

  • Day work close to home. Projects in and around the Sioux Falls region. No road weeks.

  • 401(k) with safe harbor match up to 4% of pay. Fully vested the day it lands in your account. Eligible after six months.

  • HSA match of $1.50 for every $1 you contribute. Up to $750 individual or $1,500 family annually.

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting 30 days after hire. Three medical plan options through Avera Health Plans, plus a wellness credit of up to $20 per week.

  • Short-term and long-term disability and life and AD&D insurance at no cost to you.

  • Annual boot voucher and a $250 to $350 prescription safety eyewear allowance. Discounted gym memberships at Avera and GreatLIFE.

  • Employee Assistance Program at no cost to you and your household.

  • Paid time off and holidays, paid certifications and continuing training, tuition assistance, sign-on or referral bonus.

Career Path

Journey Structural promotes from within. Strong ironworkers move into lead and foreman roles as they earn it. We pay for the certifications, training, and equipment time that get you there. If you want a long career and a path forward, this is the place to build it.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a primarily field-based role. The work environment described below is representative of what an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be provided.

  • Move about on foot consistently across job sites with unfinished and uneven surfaces.
