Can you make $500,000 a year in cyber security?

Hacker professionals, such as penetration testers or security consultants, can potentially earn $500,000 annually with extensive experience, advanced skills, and certifications like CISSP or OSCP. High salaries are often associated with senior roles, specialized expertise, or leadership positions in large organizations or consulting firms.

Is 25 too late for cyber security?

Hacker Per, or cybersecurity professionals, can start at any age, including 25, as the field values skills and knowledge over age. Many successful cybersecurity experts begin their careers later, especially if they acquire relevant certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP and develop practical skills through training and hands-on experience.

Who is the No.1 hacker?

There is no official ranking for the top hacker, as hacking skills vary widely and are often kept anonymous. Notable figures like Kevin Mitnick and groups such as Anonymous are well-known, but the concept of a single 'No.1 hacker' is subjective and difficult to determine due to the clandestine nature of hacking activities.

What jobs can hackers get?

Hackers can pursue roles such as cybersecurity analysts, penetration testers, security consultants, and ethical hackers. These positions involve identifying vulnerabilities, testing security systems, and protecting organizations from cyber threats, often requiring knowledge of tools like Kali Linux, programming skills, and relevant certifications such as CEH or CISSP.

What are Hacker Penetration Testers?

Hacker Penetration Testers, often called 'pen testers' or ethical hackers, are cybersecurity professionals who simulate cyberattacks on computer systems, networks, or applications to identify and fix security vulnerabilities. Their main goal is to find weaknesses before malicious hackers can exploit them. They use a combination of technical skills, specialized tools, and creative thinking to test defenses and provide recommendations for improvement. Penetration testers play a crucial role in helping organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Penetration Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Penetration Tester, you need a solid understanding of network security, operating systems, and cybersecurity principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or related certifications like CEH or OSCP. Familiarity with tools such as Metasploit, Burp Suite, and Nmap is typically required to identify and exploit vulnerabilities. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help convey findings and collaborate with teams. These competencies are crucial for proactively identifying security weaknesses and helping organizations strengthen their defenses against cyber threats.

Job description

San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY ยท Hybrid ยท Full-time
Compensation: $180,000โ€“$230,000 + competitive equity

About the Company

We're a Series A consumer-tech company building tools that help creators centralize their online brand presence, connect with their audiences and partners, and grow their businesses. We're going after the rapidly expanding creator economy with products that already serve millions of page views per day and are scaling toward billions.

Founded 2019 ยท 11โ€“50 people ยท Industry: Consumer Tech

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Full-stack Engineer to lead and own large parts of the product from ideation to implementation. The role is balanced across frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend (Python/Flask), building AI-powered creator tools alongside AI PMs and ML engineers. AI is core to how this team works โ€” not a productivity hack, but a fundamental shift in how the team scopes, builds, and ships. Every engineer is expected to work this way and raise the bar over time.

What you'll be doing

  • Build and iterate on AI-powered creator tools alongside AI PMs and ML engineers
  • Build products that get millions of page views per day and scale them toward billions
  • Lead frontend development with delightful UI/UX
  • Create systems and understand how all the moving pieces interact
  • Reach for AI tools as your default starting point: scoping, planning, spec-writing, code generation, debugging, and code review
  • Hold a concrete point of view on what AI can and can't do in product

Tech stack: TypeScript, React, Python, Flask, SQL/Postgres, Firebase

Requirements
  • 5+ years fullstack engineering
  • TypeScript + React frontend
  • Python backend, SQL/Postgres
  • AI-native: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor
Green Flags
  • Already changed how they work because of AI. Can name specific shifts in their output or pace in the last 6 months.
  • Production usage of Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, or comparable. Has concrete opinions on where AI helps and where it breaks down.
  • Uses LLMs beyond code generation: planning, spec-writing, debugging, code review.
  • Prior founder or product engineering experience at a small, fast-paced startup.
  • Has shipped high-scale products (millions of page views per day or comparable).
Red Flags
  • Still getting started with AI tooling. Team is explicit this is not the right fit yet
  • Treats AI as a productivity hack rather than a fundamental shift in how to work.
  • Exclusively big-tech background without startup adaptation signal.
  • Frequent job hopping with no clear ownership or shipping story.
  • Mainly contract or temporary work, no full-time scope history.
Why Join
  • Real ownership of large parts of the product, end to end across frontend and backend
  • High-scale impact โ€” millions of page views per day, scaling toward billions
  • A genuinely AI-native engineering culture
  • Strong benefits: 4 weeks PTO + federal holidays, platinum medical/vision/dental (99% employer-paid premiums), 401k, gym and professional-development stipends, home-office reimbursement, and relocation assistance to SF or NY
Details
  • Work policy: Hybrid โ€” Tuesday to Thursday in office
  • Visa sponsorship: None available
  • Employment type: Full-time
