Summary/Objective
Maintain large native plant gardens for public enjoyment and education.
Interviews will be held on Aug. 19.
Essential Job Duties
  • Maintain large native plant gardens in accordance with area landscape plan.
  • Weeding, planting, pruning, mulching and other maintainence practices for native plants including trees and shrubs; mowing, application of herbicides, etc.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment for landscaping and green house operation.
  • Control exotic and invasive species through manual and chemical means.
  • Grow seeding native plants for special events and maintaining greenhouse for optimal growth - in cooperation with other staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with educational programming related to native plants.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and stakeholders regarding the nature center and its landscape.

Ancillary Job Duties
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • At least one year of native plant garden maintenance preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for garden management.
  • Knowledge of basic native plant garden maintenance practices.
  • Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information, and develop solutions and plans to solve the problem.
  • Ability to interact with the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours, as needed.

Work Environment
  • Frequently work in outdoor weather which may be hot, cold, wet or humid.
