An H2B in-country extension allows temporary non-agricultural workers who are already in the United States on an H2B visa to extend their stay and continue working, either with the same employer or a new one, without having to leave the country. This process requires the employer to file a new petition before the current H2B status expires. The extension can help workers avoid gaps in employment and reduce travel and visa processing costs. The extension period is subject to the maximum stay allowed under H2B regulations, typically up to three years total.
