Job description

Location: Platypus Marine, Inc. โ€“ Port Angeles, WA

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview: The Aluminum Welder is responsible for welding and fabricating aluminum components for marine vessels and related structures. ย The role involves precise welding tasks using GMAW MIG and TIG techniques, ensuring that all work meets industry standards and project specifications. The Aluminum Welder will prepare and weld aluminum surfaces, following proper safety protocols and quality procedures, while maintaining a clean and organized jobsite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform aluminum fabrication and welding tasks, including MIG & TIG welding, on marine vessels and ship structures including but not limited to:
    • Single-pass and multi-pass fillets in all positions, for all joint and material thickness configurations
    • Multi-pass full penetration joint details, for all joint and material thickness configurations
  • Read and Interpret constructions drawings, job specifications, and contract specs to obtain weld sizing information and material edge preparation requirements.
  • Perform welding inspections to ensure high-quality craftmanship.
  • Operate equipment related to the job, including forklifts, hoists, slings, press brakes, shear machine, hydraulic rolls.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.ย 
  • Perform work in various locations such as confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor environments with exposure to changing weather conditions.ย 
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professionalism toward workers, subcontractors, and clients.ย 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of aluminum fabrication and/or welding experience (shipyard or similar environment preferred).
  • Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding techniques on aluminum materials.
  • Ability to use fabrication equipment such as grinders, saws, drill press, torch (oxyacetylene) & plasma.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding or ship repair processes is preferred.
  • Certification in aluminum welding (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, standing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within changing priorities with enthusiasm.
