Elementary Teacher Position Available 

Job Title: 2nd Grade Elementary Teacher Position 

Location: Byron Center Charter School Position 

Type: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE 

About Us: Byron Center Charter School (BCCS) is a small, rural K-12 school with a strong sense of community. We prioritize student growth, character development, and personalized learning in a supportive, inclusive environment. 

Job Description: BCCS seeks a motivated 2nd Grade Teacher to deliver high-quality instruction aligned with Michigan 2nd Grade Content Standards. The ideal candidate fosters a supportive classroom, uses research-based methods, and collaborates with staff and families to help every student thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the 2nd grade State Content standards.

Ability to effectively impart to students the necessary skills to read, write, speak and listen in the English Language.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all stakeholders: students, co-workers and parents.

Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Ability to make personal connections with students, and maintain the philosophy that all children can learn at high levels when provided with the appropriate instruction.

Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students.

Ability to integrate technology into lessons.

Receptive to feedback and continuously in pursuit of improving classroom effectiveness and achievement of student outcomes.

Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and self-confidence. 

Qualifications: Valid Michigan teaching certification in the appropriate elementary grade level and subject areas.

Essential Job Functions:

Deliver 2nd grade instruction aligned with core content standards and BCCS curriculum.

Foster student engagement and appreciation for subject matter.

Plan clear, organized lessons using age-appropriate methods.

Maintain a safe, supportive, and orderly classroom environment.

Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and community partners.

Assess student learning and adjust instruction as needed.

Provide interventions and reteaching to support success.

Track and evaluate student progress and program impact.

Maintain accurate academic records and documentation.

Participate in parent-teacher conferences and ongoing communication.

Meet deadlines and uphold school policies.

Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

All BCCS employees are entitled to Grand Valley State University's Continuing Education Scholarships

      Financial Support: 

          50% of GVSU tuition for individuals with less than five years of continuous employment at a GVSU-                   authorized charter school 

          80% of GVSU tuition for individuals with five or more years of continuous employment at a GVSU-                     authorized charter school 

      Credit Limit: 

          Scholarships are limited to 12 credits per person per academic year (Fall through Spring/Summer                     semesters).
