Position Introduction:
The Michael F. Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma is committed to developing ethical, innovative business leaders who make a positive impact in their organizations and communities. Price College serves students across a variety of academic programs and offers a collaborative, student-centered environment focused on academic excellence and student success.
Price College is seeking a supportive and service-oriented professional to join our team as an Academic Advisor. This position provides individualized guidance to undergraduate business students as they navigate academic requirements, explore educational opportunities, and make progress toward graduation.
Academic Advisors develop trusted relationships with their assigned students and help them make informed decisions based on their interests, goals, and individual circumstances. The advisor will work with students on both immediate academic needs and long-term degree planning while helping them understand college and university policies, procedures, and available resources.
What you will do:
  • Provide individualized academic advising and help students develop meaningful plans for completing their degrees.
  • Support students experiencing academic challenges and connect them with appropriate college and campus resources.
  • Monitor academic progress and conduct proactive outreach related to advising, enrollment, retention, and graduation.
  • Assist transfer, prospective, and current students through advising appointments, orientation programs, and other student-focused initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and complete the administrative processes associated with academic advising.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who can quickly build rapport with students, faculty, and staff. This role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and clearly explain complex academic policies and procedures. The Academic Advisor must also be comfortable managing multiple priorities and working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Price Academic Advising Services works as a team creating supportive relationships that equip students with the information and resources necessary for their academic and personal success. Academic Advisors at Price College serve students by teaching them to successfully navigate through university requirements and college policies/procedures. In addition, advisors offer information about exciting OU and Price College opportunities and resources, academic resources, tutoring, and tools for success.
Essential Duties:
  • Participates in the Academic Advisor Training Program.
  • Conduct individual academic advising appointments for a designated caseload that addresses short-term scheduling and long-term degree planning.
  • Guides students in formulating meaningful and appropriate academic plans based on their interests and goals, while providing guidance on the General Education curriculum, degree requirements, and academic opportunities.
  • Assesses the holistic needs of students, provides support, and refers to appropriate campus partners.
  • Utilizes sound equity and inclusion practices to develop a rapport of trust with assigned students.
  • Responds to communications via phone and email in a timely manner.
  • Manages administrative tasks associated with preparing and completing academic advising sessions. Evaluates, updates, and securely maintains student and advising records.
  • Processes academic forms such as Veteran Student Form, ROTC Academic Plan, Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal, and petitions.
  • Meets with students on Academic Probation/Reinstatement to develop their academic success plans.
  • Advises transfer students regarding transfer articulation, review course equivalencies, and assist with course planning and degree completion.
  • Conducts proactive outreach to encourage timely advising appointments, registration, and the completion of tasks that lead to degree progress.
  • Conducts graduation checks and degree and minor clearances.
  • Participates in institutional retention and completion initiatives.
  • Engages with the Academic Advising Community through monthly meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
