What is GT Suite?

GT Suite is a versatile simulation software developed by Gamma Technologies, primarily used for modeling and analyzing multi-physics systems in automotive, aerospace, and other engineering industries. It allows engineers to simulate and optimize systems such as engines, transmissions, thermal management, acoustics, and vehicle dynamics. By providing a virtual platform for system-level modeling, GT Suite helps reduce development time, improve product performance, and lower costs associated with physical prototyping.

What are some typical challenges faced by engineers working with GT Suite, and how can they be addressed?

Engineers using GT Suite often encounter challenges related to model complexity and computational demands, especially when simulating large systems or integrating multiple physical domains. Managing accurate parameterization and validation of models can also be demanding, requiring close collaboration with test engineers and access to quality data. To address these challenges, it's helpful to break down complex systems into manageable sub-models, utilize GT Suite's built-in libraries for standardized components, and leverage team knowledge through regular technical reviews or collaborative troubleshooting sessions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GT Suite engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GT-SUITE Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering, with expertise in simulation and modeling of vehicle systems. Proficiency with GT-SUITE software, as well as familiarity with CAD tools and possibly programming languages like MATLAB or Python, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication make candidates stand out in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for accurately simulating complex systems, optimizing designs, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to innovate in automotive engineering.

What is the difference between Gt Suite vs PCB Designer?

AspectGt SuitePCB Designer
Primary UseElectromagnetic simulation and signal integrity analysisPrinted circuit board layout and design
Required SkillsElectromagnetic theory, simulation tools, electrical engineeringElectrical engineering, PCB design software, schematic capture
Work EnvironmentEngineering labs, design firms, R&D departmentsElectronics manufacturing, design firms, prototyping labs
CertificationsNone specific, often engineering degreesCertified PCB Designer (CPD), industry certifications

While Gt Suite focuses on electromagnetic simulation and signal integrity analysis, PCB Designer is centered on creating and laying out printed circuit boards. Both roles require electrical engineering knowledge but serve different stages of the product development process. Gt Suite is used primarily for simulation, whereas PCB Designer handles physical layout and design. Understanding these differences helps professionals choose the right skill set and tools for their career goals.

Job description

Mechanical Engineer
This role is fully onsite in Bloomfield, CT, five days per week, and the company will be relocating to Suffield, CT later in 2026.
About LiquidPiston:
LiquidPiston, Inc. is developing the next generation of compact, high-efficiency rotary engines based on its patented thermodynamic cycle. Our engines are being designed to transform power generation and propulsion across aerospace, defense, and commercial industries. We offer a fast-paced, hands-on R&D environment where mechanical engineers have a direct impact on shaping breakthrough technologies.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on, innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to all phases of engine development-from concept and design through testing and iteration-as we advance LiquidPiston's rotary diesel engines toward production. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role requiring strong mechanical design skills, analytical thinking, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, analyze, and develop engine components, subsystems, and custom test rigs
  • Use SolidWorks for 3D CAD modeling and drafting of engine parts and assemblies
  • Conduct engineering analysis using a combination of hand calculations, Matlab, custom code, and commercial simulation tools (e.g., GT-Suite)
  • Support prototype fabrication by working with in-house machinists and external vendors
  • Participate in the operation and testing of rotary engines on dynamometers and data acquisition systems
  • Assemble and disassemble prototype engines; perform part inspections and document build details
  • Troubleshoot and debug mechanical systems through hands-on work and root-cause analysis
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, technicians, and contractors to execute test and design projects
  • Present design proposals and test data clearly through reports, presentations, and team meetings
  • Help enforce engineering best practices and company policies (file organization, documentation, project management tools)
  • Stay current with advancements in rotary engines, diesel combustion, thermodynamics, and related technologies
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in CAD design (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Familiarity with Matlab and mechanical system modeling/analysis
  • Solid understanding of mechanical fundamentals: thermodynamics, kinematics, stress analysis
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems-building, testing, or prototyping
  • Strong problem-solving skills, self-direction, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with internal combustion engines, especially rotary or diesel platforms
  • Familiarity with GT-Suite or other engine simulation tools
  • Exposure to DAQ systems and test instrumentation
  • Experience managing prototype builds or working closely with machinists
Benefits:
  • Flexible PTO to encourage work-life balance and personal well-being
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage: medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Equity participation: RSUs for all permanent employees
  • 401(k) with match: 100% up to 3%, plus 50% match for 3-5% range
  • Growth opportunities: Mentorship, training, and leadership development
