KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a current, permanent FBI employee
• Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance

Work is generally performed in an office setting which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Inspections, when necessary, are conducted at locations where sensitive information is/will be handled. Exposure to inclement weather may be necessary during on-site inspections of exterior field office space.
MAJOR DUTIES
GS-9:

• Receives, reviews, and critically analyzes incoming material/correspondence outlining possible security concerns relating to complex security assessment issues for the purpose of determining merit for granting, continuing, and/or revoking security clearance and access authorizations.
• Initiates through Bureau indices checks, arrest record checks, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) information checks, ELSUR checks, and the like, in order to obtain the most complete, pertinent, and identifying information relative to subject(s)
• Prepares a detailed summary of data obtained, determining and excluding that which has been determined irrelevant, redundant, or superfluous and composes necessary correspondence to appropriate field office(s) for initiation of investigation.

GS-11:

• May conducts security briefings, which includes Security Awareness Briefings, and Hostile Threat Briefings. Revises security briefings based on the specific issues developed and security requirements.
• Review, analyze and prepare routine incoming/outgoing communications which set forth physical security policy/guideline requirements.
• Requests, receives and scrutinizes numerous Bureau files and related material to determine, isolate, and extract all possible identifying information, matching records, questionable/overlapping elements and viable avenues of investigative pursuit.
• Prepare/update the less complex Inspection Division audits regarding compliance with established physical and information security guidelines.

Specialized Experience (SE)
GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

• Experience in conducting interviews, security briefings, discuss analysis and opinions in a concise, logical, and objective manner.
• Experience in preparing written communications setting forth analysis and recommendations.
• Knowledge of and experience in the use of investigative procedures, terminology and requirements to furnish leads, develop information, and ensure the completeness of investigative results and justification for recommendations made.

GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

• Knowledge of the processes and procedures involved with conducting the most sensitive and complex personnel security investigations.
• Experience analyzing various types of material, including investigative reports, to develop information regarding security vulnerabilities.
• Knowledge of the indices systems, various record check systems, and file review processes in order to develop and extract the most complete and accurate information relative to the subject as possible.

Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

• Relocation expenses MAY be borne by the FBI. Candidates receiving a transfer of physical location, whether at the expense of the FBI or not, will be required to complete a one-year commitment to the assignment, prior to moving to a new position at the FBI. The 12-month waiting period begins the day an employee reports for duty at the new location. (if applicable)
