What is a growth?

A Growth role focuses on driving the expansion of a company's user base, revenue, or market presence through data-driven strategies and experimentation. Professionals in this role often work cross-functionally with marketing, product, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for growth, run tests, and optimize the customer journey. Their primary goal is to accelerate business metrics by analyzing data, improving processes, and implementing creative solutions. Growth roles can include job titles like Growth Manager, Growth Marketer, or Growth Product Manager.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a growth manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Growth Manager, you need expertise in data analysis, digital marketing, and strategic planning, often supported by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics platforms like Google Analytics, marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot), and A/B testing software is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help Growth Managers identify opportunities and collaborate across teams. These abilities are crucial for driving user acquisition, retention, and revenue growth in a competitive market.

How does a growth professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive company objectives?

Growth professionals work closely with marketing, product, sales, and data teams to identify and implement strategies that accelerate user acquisition, engagement, and retention. They often lead experiments, analyze data to uncover opportunities, and coordinate initiatives that require input from multiple departments. This collaborative approach helps ensure that growth strategies are aligned with broader company goals and that resources are leveraged effectively. Regular communication and project management skills are crucial for success in this dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Job description

Job Summary:
Base Power Company is America’s next-generation power company, transforming the electricity grid through a network of distributed batteries. The Growth Product role involves owning and improving customer acquisition and retention products while collaborating cross-functionally to enhance the customer journey and drive business performance.
Responsibilities:
• Own and improve critical parts of Base’s acquisition, activation, and retention funnel: from first touch through long-term engagement.
• Identify and execute large strategic bets that materially improve growth performance, scalability, or customer experience.
• Build new growth products and systems from scratch, including self-serve flows, onboarding experiences, lifecycle products, referral systems, internal tooling, and funnel infrastructure.
• Partner closely with engineering, design, analytics, operations, and growth teams to ship high-quality customer experiences quickly.
• Define and improve product measurement: instrumentation, events, funnels, experimentation frameworks, attribution hygiene, and operational reporting.
• Develop a deep understanding of customer behavior, operational constraints, and funnel performance to identify the highest-leverage opportunities.
• Run experiments across onboarding, routing, messaging, qualification, activation, retention, and lifecycle experiences — while maintaining a coherent and trustworthy customer experience.
• Contribute directly to implementation when needed, whether through lightweight front-end work, analytics tooling, product configuration, or rapid prototyping.
• Help define how product and growth operate together at Base as the company scales.
Qualifications:
Required:
• You’ve owned a website, funnel, or product with measurable outcomes.
• Analytics fluency: you define your own events, build your own funnels, and write SQL to answer questions without waiting for a data team.
• Design judgment: you can evaluate layout, hierarchy, and interaction patterns and give engineers and designers useful direction.
• Ability to operate in an unstructured environment and keep work moving without process holding you up.
Preferred:
• Web / front-end application experience — you've shipped production sites or applications.
• SEO fundamentals: on-page structure, technical hygiene, tooling (Semrush, Ahrefs).
• Figma fluency.
• Familiarity with PostHog or similar product analytics tools.
• AI fluency.
Company:
Base is building the future of American power. The grid is the largest, most complex machine in the world. Founded in 2023, the company is headquartered in Austin, USA, with a team of 501-1000 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
