Job description

Job Description

As Director on the Growth & Strategy team at X-energy, you will shape and execute the company's corporate strategy and drive consequential growth initiatives. This means identifying and evaluating new markets, strategic partnerships, potential acquisitions, and business initiatives that will define X-energy's future. You will dig into tough, cross-functional problems that do not have obvious answers (whether that is market expansion, project economics, or competitive positioning) and bring clarity and a business lens to how we execute. You will liaise across teams and translate between engineering, commercial, and financial perspectives to drive decisions forward. No two weeks look the same.

You will have direct exposure to high-stakes decisions, clear ownership of strategic projects, and visibility with executive leadership and our Board of Directors.

This role requires entrepreneurial thinking, strong ownership, and a bias toward action. We tackle the hardest problems at pace and measure ourselves by our impact.

The work you do will shape where X-energy goes next.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
  • This role is expected to lead substantial scopes of work for the team, build relationships with senior leaders, and direct multiple team members in job execution
  • Lead the team’s views on corporate development opportunities and associated strategies related to new business ventures, customer-facing service lines, capital formation, M&A and strategic partnerships, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline (and typically technical) teams to help surface solutions and execution plans to improve cost, schedule, and/or technical or commercial viability of projects and businesses
  • Direct company-wide strategy development, developing coherent presentations, analysis, and processes to improve company operations in alignment with long-term goals
  • Drive the development and evolution of financial models by junior team members across a portfolio of infrastructure and energy investments, ensuring that they are reliable, accurate, and support broader decision making.
  • Build buy-in with senior leadership through prepared presentations and materials for meetings with executives, board members, and investors. This team supports quarterly Board of Directors meetings
  • Support team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, under guided supervision. Share knowledge related to industry best practices and standards with others across the team
  • Drive alignment and clarity across important groups of stakeholders, including clients, executives, engineers, and commercial teams by presenting, defending, and explaining key decisions
  • Proactively identify business cases in response to important strategic questions, including work that is responsive to deals, financing or other strategic priorities
  • Bring the best operating system and processes to the team, to model leadership and efficiency and demonstrate high quality of work to junior team members
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Typically, fifteen years of general work experience.
  • An MBA with three or more years of related experience in strategy, finance, or similar business roles, with a strong focus on financial modeling, business case development, and strategic planning, can be in lieu of fifteen years of general work experience.
  • Demonstrated strength in developing cogent executive and board level presentation decks. Strong PowerPoint skills expected.
  • Exceptional Excel modeling skills, with the ability to build from scratch, create sensitivity cases, and set up models thoughtfully.
  • Experience with strategy development (e.g. market and competitor analysis, opportunity identification and exploration, business case development and evaluation, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills with ability to present complex information to executive leaders.
