Job description

Mechanical Systems Designer & 2D AutoCAD Production Specialist

Up to $75,000 Base • Richfield, WI Area • Direct-Hire

EXPERIENCE DEPTH: 3+ years of professional 2D AutoCAD mechanical design experience, ideally within a manufacturing, industrial machinery, or structural steel fabrication environment.

TECHNICAL FOCUS: Complete mastery of 2D design excellence, recognizing precision 2D drafting as the primary technical requirement for the client base.

COMPENSATION PROFILE: $60,000 – $75,000 baseline starting salary (commensurate with depth of expertise) + comprehensive premium corporate benefits package.

WORK STRUCTURE: Full-time, permanent, W-2 role. 100% onsite position with zero travel requirements, allowing for tight integration with production.

LOCATION: Richfield, WI area (Must reside within a dependable 45-minute daily commuting radius; no relocation assistance is available).

COMPLIANCE: United States Citizens or Green Card holders only; corporate visa sponsorship is not available.

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading, financially powerhouse industrial manufacturer celebrating 40 years of stability, zero layoffs, and consistent market growth. Engineering sustainable, high-efficiency systems that reduce pollution and fossil fuel consumption, their custom solutions pay for themselves in less than two years, driving record-breaking market demand. Open solely due to company growth, this modern facility operates with a refreshing, family-friendly culture that is entirely free of corporate politics.

This design position is the ideal professional home for a detail-oriented draftsman looking to escape the instability of volatile contract work or high-stress engineering firms. Bridging the gap between engineering theory and shop floor reality, you will take ownership of immaculate, manufacturing-ready schematics and custom submittal packages. Operating just steps away from the production floor, you will have the unique satisfaction of collaborating directly with fabricators and watching your custom designs physically come to life.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Submittal Engineering: Designing custom 2D mechanical submittal drawings for complex industrial heat-transfer and fluid-handling systems using AutoCAD, ensuring all geometric tolerances meet strict customer specifications.
  • BOM Development: Developing comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) and highly structured sales order job packets to efficiently guide production teams from design approval through final assembly.
  • Floor Collaboration: Collaborating directly with the production floor, visiting the manufacturing grid to view your assigned projects in progress, and updating "as-built" master drawings post-shipment.
  • Client Technical Consultation: Serving as a key technical point of contact for clients, answering engineering and design questions during the submittal process to secure rapid "approved for production" sign-offs.
  • Drafting Standardization: Utilizing internal custom AutoCAD commands and localized department protocols to maintain strict drafting structure while providing technical guidance to peers on complex design inquiries.
What We Are Looking For
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude: A deep instinct for how 2D assembly drawings translate to raw manufacturing, paired with a genuine interest in collaborating closely with fabricators and assembly technicians.
  • Educational Foundation: An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Drafting Technology, or a related technical domain is highly preferred.
  • Professional Stability: A rock-solid work history that reflects career longevity and commitment, averaging at least 3+ years of tenure per previous employer; frequent job-hopping will not be considered.
  • Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with industrial clients, project managers, and shop floor supervisors alike.
