What does a growth director do?

A Growth Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive business growth, increase revenue, and expand the company's customer base. They work closely with marketing, sales, product, and analytics teams to identify opportunities for scaling the business. Their role often includes data analysis, experimentation with new market approaches, and optimizing customer acquisition channels. Growth Directors also set measurable goals, monitor key performance indicators, and adjust tactics to ensure sustained growth. They play a critical part in shaping the company's overall direction and long-term success.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a growth director?

To thrive as a Growth Director, you need expertise in business development, data-driven marketing strategies, and revenue optimization, often supported by a degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems, analytics platforms like Google Analytics, and marketing automation tools is typically required. Strong leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and excellent communication skills help drive cross-functional initiatives and inspire teams. These skills are essential for identifying growth opportunities, executing scalable strategies, and ensuring sustainable business expansion.

How does a growth director collaborate with product, marketing, and sales teams to drive company expansion?

A Growth Director plays a pivotal role in aligning the strategies of product, marketing, and sales teams to accelerate business growth. They often facilitate regular cross-functional meetings, coordinate joint initiatives such as product launches or targeted campaigns, and use data-driven insights to inform shared objectives. By fostering open communication and ensuring that each department’s efforts are strategically integrated, Growth Directors help remove silos and drive cohesive, scalable growth. This collaboration not only streamlines processes but also maximizes the impact of each team’s contributions.

Description
SUMMARY
The Director, Growth is responsible for owning and advancing Butler/Till's priority growth verticals (e.g., Healthcare, Local-at-Scale) by defining go-to-market strategy, building senior-level relationships, and driving qualified pipeline. This role serves as a category expert and primary external voice, translating market intelligence into actionable strategy, thought leadership, and measurable business impact.
Acting as a bridge between strategy and execution, this individual develops the playbooks, infrastructure, and cross-functional alignment needed to position Butler/Till as a competitive partner while scaling repeatable growth models across the organization.
KEY OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Outcome: Define and Scale Vertical Go-to-Market Strategy
Key Responsibilities:
• Own and continuously evolve the GTM strategy across priority vertical(s), including target audiences, messaging, and priority accounts
• Build and maintain scalable playbooks (personas, positioning, case studies, and proof points)
• Translate market intelligence and category insights into clear, differentiated positioning
• Partner with Growth and Marketing to align strategy with campaigns, content, and pipeline focus
Key Outcome: Drive Measurable Pipeline and Growth Impact
Key Responsibilities:
• Own contribution to qualified pipeline aligned to agency growth priorities
• Identify, source, and engage high-value target accounts to build sustained opportunity flow
• Build and nurture senior-level relationships to open doors and accelerate opportunity progression
• Define, track, and optimize success metrics (pipeline quality, conversion, account penetration)
Key Outcome: Build and Operationalize Repeatable Growth Models
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and scale repeatable GTM frameworks that extend beyond the individual role
• Translate strategy into practical tools, processes, and ways of working across teams
• Identify gaps in capabilities, positioning, or process and drive cross-functional solutions
• Codify and share best practices to improve overall new business effectiveness
Key Outcome: Establish Market Presence and Influence Enterprise Strategy
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the internal and external voice of the vertical, aligning teams on positioning and opportunity
• Represent Butler/Till in industry events, partnerships, and thought leadership initiatives
• Build relationships with key industry stakeholders to strengthen credibility and visibility
• Act as a strategic advisor to leadership, influencing investment, prioritization, and growth strategy
Other Responsibilities:
• Additional accountabilities and tasks may be assigned by leader/management, to contribute to overall team and agency success.
QUALIFICATIONS
• REQUIRED
o 10+ years of experience in multi-location, franchise, or local-at-scale marketing, media, or business development; agency, brand, or publisher side
o Deep fluency across the Local-at-scale spectrum: national franchise systems, multi-location enterprises, and dealer/distributor networks (not single-location/independent franchisee work)
o Proven track record of building senior relationships and opening doors at national brands with local execution
o Strong strategic communicator; able to translate Butler/Till's capabilities into Local-specific value across corporate and field marketing audiences
o Working knowledge of the mechanics that make Local hard: co-op funding, brand-vs-local tension, multi-location attribution, and field enablement
o Comfortable operating without a quota; motivated by category ownership and relationship outcomes, not just closed revenue
o Collaborative by instinct; works well across marketing, growth, and leadership without siloing
o Existing Local/franchise network is a plus; ability to build one quickly is the minimum
CORE COMPETENCIES
• CUSTOMER FOCUS/CLIENT INTIMACY: seeking to understand client business challenges/needs and delivering continuous value to our clients
• COLLABORATIVE: working with teams and across the organization with ease
• OWNER AGILITY: able to continuously learn and quickly adapt to changing circumstance
• RESULTS DRIVEN: accepts accountability to deliver business outcomes, even under changing circumstances. Delivers on commitments
• DISCIPLINED: Thinks, plans, and prioritizes work on an ongoing basis, plans and aligns with key team members before acting
Travel Requirements
All employees, regardless of role or geographic location, are required to attend onboarding in person during their first week of employment and annually for the Shareholder's Summit held each June. For the Director, Growth, regular and frequent travel is an essential job function and will be required to support business development objectives and organizational initiatives, including quarterly leadership development training, key meetings and events, visits to Agency headquarters, industry conferences, trade shows, prospective client meetings, networking events, and other strategic growth activities.
