Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Project Engineer - Natural Gas Facilities in one of the posting locations below. In this role, you will have an opportunity to join a growing engineering team and play a key role in the company's future growth as part of Farnsworth's Energy and Utilities group. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase leadership, project management, and technical knowledge within this industry.
Posting Locations for this role: Colorado Springs, CO; Greenwood Village (Denver Tech Center), CO; Indianapolis, IN; Lisle, IL; or St. Louis, MO
What You'll Do:
  • Provide technical expertise on natural gas facility projects (e.g., compressor stations, metering/regulation stations) in support of other Farnsworth Group project managers.
  • Develop projects by analyzing existing facilities for proposed improvements to performance, safety, and reliability as requested by our clients.
  • Prepare detailed technical documents, engineering calculations, design specifications, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and reports in support of projects for our clients.
  • Coordinate with drafters/designers to develop engineering drawings.
  • Support construction activities at field locations to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications. This includes periodic site visits, oversight of Farnsworth team members on site, and/or addressing contractor inquiries.
  • Ability to manage engineering projects from conception to completion, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, design coordination, construction support, and project closeout is desired. This would include coordination with client representatives, internal departments (i.e. survey, structural, electrical, etc.), subcontractors, and other Energy and Utility team members.
  • Develop proposals including fee estimating, subcontractor request for proposals, schedule preparation in Microsoft Project, and writing of proposal letters while coordinating with the proposal team.

What You'll Need:
  • BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in facility design in the natural gas industry.
  • Compression experience - sizing/modeling, specifying, designing, installing, commissioning.
  • Knowledge of CFR 49 part 192.
  • Knowledge of gas transmission systems as well as mechanical components and ancillary systems installed at compressor stations.
  • Familiar with coordinating with clients, attending client meetings, and overseeing quality standards.
  • Experience working with natural gas utilities and/or midstream companies.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer desired.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CADWorx and related third-party platforms a plus.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be willing to travel and have a valid driver's license.
