What is a group product manager?

A group product manager is responsible for product strategy, and you usually work for a software company and report to company executives. In this career, you oversee teams from development to launch and stay up-to-date with competitors’ products. Duties may include conducting customer surveys, inspecting budgets, and developing business models. You start with a job as a product manager (PM) to gain experience in the field. Other qualifications include strong leadership skills, and a bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, or a related field. Certifications may be required based on industry.

How does a group product manager balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in product development?

A Group Product Manager (GPM) is responsible for setting the overall product vision and strategy for a portfolio of products, while also mentoring and guiding individual product managers on their teams. While much of their time is spent on high-level planning, cross-functional alignment, and stakeholder management, GPMs are also expected to dive into the details when necessary—such as refining roadmaps, prioritizing features, or resolving critical issues. Successful GPMs find a balance by establishing clear processes, delegating appropriately, and fostering open communication, ensuring both strategic goals and day-to-day execution are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a group product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Group Product Manager, you need deep expertise in product strategy, market analysis, and team leadership, often supported by a degree in business or technology and several years of product management experience. Familiarity with product management tools like Jira, Aha!, and analytics platforms, as well as Agile or Scrum certifications, is typically expected. Exceptional communication, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to mentor and inspire teams are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure effective product vision execution, drive team alignment, and deliver products that meet both business goals and customer needs.

Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

The Ford Motor Credit Company team helps put people behind the wheels of great Ford and Lincoln vehicles. By partnering with dealerships, we provide financing, personalized service and professional expertise to thousands of dealers and millions of customers in over one hundred countries around the world.

In this position...

Are you a strategic delivery leader who excels at portfolio optimization, demand management, and aligning IT investments with business value? Join the Ford Motor Credit Company (FMCC) Product Organization as a Lead Portfolio Delivery Manager.

In this critical role, you will oversee and partner with a portfolio of 5+ critical product teams. You will act as the driving force behind our value delivery, helping teams uncover and optimize their velocity, track critical KPIs, and continuously mature their operational processes.

This is not a governance-only role; it is a highly collaborative, hands-on partnership. You will lead demand management and ROI tracking, enabling measurable improvements in resource utilization and data-driven decision-making across the portfolio. You will be responsible for improving cross-functional decision-making, enhancing our quarterly strategic planning processes, and boosting the visibility and alignment of IT investments with business priorities through modern, data-driven tools.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive project, program, or portfolio management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading enterprise Agile initiatives, managing multi-team portfolios, and aligning cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience in demand management, ROI tracking, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams driving professional growth, cross-functional alignment, and the resolution of complex issues.
  • Hands-on mastery of Azure DevOps (ADO) or equivalent enterprise Agile platforms for tracking velocity, capacity, and sprint metrics.
  • Strong analytical literacy with the ability to turn raw delivery data into actionable portfolio-maturity plans.

Even better, you may have...

  • Experience enhancing quarterly strategic planning processes and utilizing data-driven tools to align IT investments with business priorities.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or SAFe Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) certification.
  • Experience in Fintech, lending, financial services, or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience guiding distributed teams across multiple time zones (e.g., US, India, South America).
  • A strategic thinker who thrives in high-pressure environments and is comfortable navigating organizational complexity to drive transformation.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $132,800-$250,800.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
