What is the difference between Groundwork Renewable vs Solar Installer?

AspectGroundwork RenewableSolar Installer
CertificationsOSHA safety training, renewable energy certificationsOSHA safety training, NABCEP certification often preferred
Work EnvironmentOutdoor, construction sites, renewable energy projectsOutdoor, rooftops, solar panel installation sites
Industry UsageRenewable energy companies, environmental firmsSolar energy companies, construction firms

Groundwork Renewable and Solar Installer roles both involve outdoor work in renewable energy projects. Groundwork Renewable focuses on site preparation and foundational tasks, while Solar Installers specialize in installing solar panels. Both roles require safety certifications and are integral to the renewable energy industry, but they differ in specific duties and work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Groundwork Renewable Energy Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Groundwork Renewable Energy Technician, you need knowledge of renewable energy systems, electrical and mechanical aptitude, and often a relevant technical certification or associate degree. Familiarity with tools such as solar installation equipment, power tools, and industry-standard safety systems is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and attention to detail help technicians excel in dynamic field environments. These abilities ensure safe, efficient installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems, supporting project success and sustainability goals.

What are Groundwork Renewable jobs?

Groundwork Renewable jobs typically involve site preparation and foundational work for renewable energy projects, such as solar, wind, or geothermal installations. Workers in this field may handle tasks like excavation, grading, trenching, and pouring concrete to support the construction of renewable energy systems. These roles are crucial for ensuring that renewable energy infrastructure is safely and efficiently built from the ground up. Candidates often need experience in construction, heavy machinery operation, and familiarity with safety standards. The demand for these jobs is growing as the renewable energy sector expands.

What are some common challenges faced by Groundwork Renewable professionals when coordinating with construction teams on site?

Groundwork Renewable professionals often encounter challenges related to communication and scheduling when working with construction teams. Since renewable energy projects frequently involve multiple stakeholders—such as civil engineers, electricians, and project managers—aligning timelines and ensuring everyone is informed about site logistics can be complex. In addition, adapting to unexpected weather or ground conditions may require quick problem-solving and flexibility. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear, consistent communication are key to overcoming these challenges and keeping projects on track.

Job description

Habitat Energy is a fast growing technology company focussed on the physical and financial optimisation of energy storage and renewable generation assets globally through complex models and trading. By maximising the returns from these assets we aim to drive investment in renewable energy and accelerate the transition to a low carbon world. Our rapidly growing team of 130+ people in Austin, TX, Oxford, UK, and Melbourne, Australia brings together exceptionally talented and passionate people in the domains of energy trading, data science, software engineering and renewable energy management.

We have a vacancy for an Origination Manager to join our US team based in Austin, Texas, reporting to our Director of Origination. This is a senior individual contributor role with responsibility for business development and origination across our core optimization services as well as adjacent products in risk management and structured products. You will play a key role in shaping Habitat's commercial strategy in the US, from refining our pitch and value proposition, to supporting the development of new offerings, to laying the commercial groundwork for expansion into new markets. ERCOT will be your primary focus, with named expansion priorities including PJM, MISO, CAISO and NYISO. Habitat prides itself in offering best in class optimization capability to owners of battery storage and renewables, so you'll need an in-depth knowledge of ERCOT power markets and related technical topics, as well as great interpersonal and communication skills.

You will be responsible for:

  • Owning origination activity across the full client acquisition lifecycle, including sourcing leads, delivering pitches, running demonstrations, responding to RFPs, developing proposals, modeling scenarios, negotiating commercial terms, and managing deals to close
  • Generating awareness and building the Habitat Energy brand through networking, developing sales and marketing materials, and cultivating outbound and inbound opportunities
  • Understanding prospective clients' needs and developing solutions that add value and match their problems and requirements
  • Contributing to the refinement of Habitat's commercial strategy, pitch and positioning across both storage and renewables optimization use cases
  • Supporting the buildout of Habitat's DART optimization offering and renewables optimization capabilities, both core to growth in ERCOT and to expansion into other US markets
  • Supporting the development and commercialization of new products and offerings in partnership with our trading, product, and analytics teams
  • Originating and structuring risk management and structured products, engaging with balance sheet providers, tolling offtakers, and developers to advance hedging partnerships and structured deal opportunities
  • Supporting Habitat's expansion into new US markets, including developing the commercial case, building relationships, and laying the BD groundwork for entry into markets such as PJM, MISO, CAISO and NYISO
  • Managing and supporting client relationships from onboarding through go-live and beyond, including developing retention strategies
  • Supporting advisory services by qualifying opportunities, developing proposals, and managing delivery and follow-up

Requirements

'Must have' skills and experience:

  • 5  to 7  years of energy market experience across business development, origination, energy trading, commodity markets, transaction support, consulting, asset management, or energy market modeling
  • In-depth knowledge of ERCOT power markets; familiarity with other US ISOs (PJM, MISO, CAISO, NYISO) a strong plus
  • Comfortable getting into detail on highly technical quantitative topics
  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal team
  • Appreciation of the finer points of verbal and written communications, strong attention to detail
  • Self motivated with the ability to take initiative, juggle multiple client priorities and solve difficult problems with a positive 'can do' attitude
  • Comfort working in a non-hierarchical team environment working towards a shared goal
  • A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering or related technical field

'Nice to have' skills and experience:

  • Network of relationships within the US power markets, preferably IPPs, developers and/or energy-focused investment banking/private equity
  • Experience in energy storage and/or renewables optimisation
  • Experience originating and structuring risk management and structured products such as tolls, revenue floors, and hedging partnerships
  • Experience supporting new market entry or commercial strategy development for expansion into new ISOs
  • Experience developing and/or running analytical/technical pricing models
  • Experience performing economic or project financial evaluations
  • Graduate degree in business/STEM fields

Ultimately we are looking for someone who is a great fit for our company so we encourage you to apply even if you may not meet every requirement in this posting. We value diversity and our environment is supportive, challenging and focused on the consistent delivery of high quality, meaningful work.

In return, we'll give you a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements and a lot of personal development opportunities. We operate a hybrid working model with at least 2 days in our offices in Austin.
