What is a grommet?

Grommets are small rings or eyelets, typically made of rubber, metal, or plastic, that are inserted into holes in materials to protect, reinforce, or insulate the hole. In manufacturing and fabrication, they are commonly used to prevent tearing or abrasion of the material around the hole, especially where wires or cables pass through. Grommets help ensure longevity and safety by reducing the risk of damage from sharp edges, vibration, or movement. They are widely used in industries such as electronics, automotive, textiles, and construction.

What are common challenges faced by grommet operators in a manufacturing environment?

Grommet operators often work in fast-paced manufacturing settings where maintaining consistent quality and speed can be challenging. They must pay close attention to detail to ensure that each grommet is correctly installed and meets specifications, as errors can lead to product defects. Additionally, operators may need to troubleshoot machinery issues and collaborate with other team members to keep production running smoothly. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are important, as the role can involve repetitive motions and standing for extended periods.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a grommet in a manufacturing or textile setting?

To thrive as a Grommet (someone who installs grommets in materials), you need manual dexterity, attention to detail, and basic understanding of materials used in textiles or manufacturing. Familiarity with hand tools, grommet presses, and sometimes industrial sewing machines is typically required. Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a team are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure precision, product quality, and effective workflow in production environments.

Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Print Production & Sign Specialist to join our growing production team. In this role, you'll be responsible for executing print and signage jobs from file setup through final finishing and shipment — working across large format digital printers, UV flatbed printers, roll-to-roll printers, vinyl printers, laminators, and flatbed routers. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced shop environment, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and enjoys the variety of producing everything from simple signage to complex sign assemblies.

What You'll Do
  • Execute print production and signage, ranging from simple small-format signs to complex sign assemblies
  • Read, interpret, and calculate job orders; follow customer-specific instructions precisely
  • Coordinate incoming job orders for production scheduling
  • Perform graphic design and file setup using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Review artwork and prepare print-ready files
  • Operate multiple machines and printers, along with related shop tools and equipment
  • Handle product finishing tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Vinyl setup, weeding, cutting, taping, trimming, and mounting to substrates
    • Banner-up installation
    • Grommet and hemming work
    • Other finishing tasks as needed
  • Produce jobs in a timely manner while effectively prioritizing multiple projects
  • Determine materials needed and stage materials for upcoming jobs
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Production teams to ensure deadlines are met
  • Operate a CNC router (or demonstrate willingness to learn)
  • Prepare finished products for shipping and delivery to multiple locations, including custom packaging when required
  • Perform regular basic maintenance on production equipment
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and well-managed work environment
What You Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in large format digital printing
  • Strong computer and internet skills across multiple platforms
  • Expertise with Adobe applications, including Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Proven ability to manage and optimize workload, prioritize multiple projects, and streamline production flow
  • Extreme attention to detail in design and production work
  • Skilled in copy editing, proofreading, and desktop publishing
  • Ability to lift objects and rolls up to 50 pounds
  • Self-starter with strong energy and drive to succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Neat, clean, and professional appearance
