Summary:
The Grinder sets up and operates grinding machines to grind cylindrical and tapered surfaces of rotating metal landing gear and other Aerospace components.
Main responsibilities:
  • Follow work instructions/blueprints to operate a Sunnen ID Honer or cylindrical grinder to bring steel landing gear parts to tolerance.
  • Use the following procedures outlined in work instructions & blueprints:
    • Adjust dial to set angle of workpiece to horizontal grinding wheel.
    • Dress wheel manually or with preset device.
    • Position workpiece on faceplate, magnetic chuck, or in chuck jaws, using wrenches.
    • Set grinding wheel speed, work surface speed, and workpiece table travel rate, according to knowledge of metal properties and abrasives.
    • Position and tighten stops to set depth of grinding wheel cut and stroke of workpiece table.
    • Utilize both automatic and manual controls to feed wheel.
  • Utilize measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gage blocks to confirm tolerances.
  • Size & micro finish/hand grind as needed to achieve related blueprint dimensions.
  • Document & maintain traceability in accordance with all quality standards, such as AS9100 and NADCAP.
  • May dress grinding wheel to specified profile for contour grinding, using special features and tools.
  • May operate tracer attachment to duplicate contours from templates or models.

Our ideal candidate:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manual machining
  • Minimum 1 year of experience running ID/OD, or centerless grinder
