The Organization

Grid United is a mission driven company aiming to solve the largest barrier to a cleaner grid by developing new long haul transmission lines in the United States. Established earlier this year by proven leaders in the power and renewables industry, Grid United is developing utility-scale electric multi-state transmission projects that will provide long-term economic benefits to communities across the country, provide Americans with improved grid resiliency for our homes and businesses, and cost savings for electricity consumers.

More information about the company can be found at www.gridunited.com

The Position

The Transmission & Interconnection Engineer will support the development of greenfield transmission projects by performing power flow and related planning analyses to evaluate system needs, constraints, and solution options. This role will play a key part in supporting the transmission planning and interconnection process, providing technical analyses that inform project feasibility, interconnection strategy, and early-stage development decisions. This role is based onsite in Houston, TX and reports to the Director of Transmission Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Perform transmission planning studies including power flow, contingency (N1), short circuit, and voltage/reactive analyses to support system reliability and growth.

Develop and evaluate transmission upgrade alternatives to address thermal, voltage, and stability constraints identified through planning studies.

Support generator and load interconnection studies, including impact analyses and mitigation recommendations.

Assist with longrange transmission planning activities, incorporating load forecasts, generation assumptions, and policy-driven scenarios.

Prepare technical reports, study documentation, and planning recommendations for internal stakeholders, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and regulators.

Coordinate with operations, project development, engineering, and external utilities to ensure planning assumptions align with real-world system conditions.

Support compliance with applicable NERC, regional reliability, and planning standards through accurate modeling and documentation.

Maintain and update transmission system models, ensuring data accuracy across planning cases.

Participate in stakeholder meetings, planning working groups, and technical discussions with regional entities (e.g., utilities, consultants, ISOs/RTOs).

Review and interpret planning criteria, interconnection requirements, and tariff provisions relevant to transmission development.

Provide technical input during early project development to support routing, sizing, and cost estimation decisions.

Desired Experience and Skills

BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university with an emphasis on Power Systems

3-5 years of experience in transmission and interconnection process and/or transmission planning or relevant advanced degree

Demonstrated knowledge of grid planning and/or electric market principles with experience utilizing at least one of the common grid analytics tools like PSS/E, PSLF, Powergem TARA, PowerWorld Simulator

Planning level knowledge of HVDC technology and systems, substation configurations, transmission line design and ratings, and cost estimates is a plus

Commercially minded, creative individual with the willingness and

flexibility to work in a fast-paced work environment with constantly shifting priorities

Self-starter willing to persevere with solving the problem at hand under ambiguity and often no readily available data

Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with utility and ISO representatives, external engineering firms, and company personnel from varied technical backgrounds
