Summary

D3G seeks independent contractors with intermediate experience in energy auditing, modeling, building diagnostic testing and green building verification. Work includes utility data analysis, property inspections, diagnostic testing, energy modeling, and reporting for compliance with financing and green building requirements. Assignments are project-based with reimbursed travel.


Scope of Work

  • Analyze utility data for energy and water benchmarking.
  • Conduct property inspections for energy audits and/or green building verification.
  • Perform building envelope testing (blower door testing), duct leakage testing and other building diagnostic testing following RESNET standards.
  • Follow corporate audit processes and apply tools to evaluate energy and water efficiency measures.
  • Produce ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audits and compliance reports.
  • Develop energy models for multifamily apartments, highlighting efficiency opportunities and financing compliance.
  • Communicate findings with D3G project contacts, clients, developers, and property owners.
  • Arrange and complete project-related travel (reimbursed).

Desired Background

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, sustainability, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Intermediate experience in energy auditing, modeling, or green building consulting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong technical writing, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage assignments independently and communicate effectively.

Valued Experience

  • Energy modeling with REM/Rate, Ekotrope, or similar software.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Level I/II energy audits.
  • Hands-on building diagnostics (blower door, duct leakage, combustion safety testing).
  • Energy / Green building credentials (e.g., RESNET HERS, BPI, AEE, ASHRAE, LEED, NGBS, EarthCraft).
  • Prior work in construction management, supervision, or licensed trades.
  • Military service (D3G is a certified V3โ€”Virginia Values Veteransโ€”company).

Contractor Terms

  • This is an independent contractor opportunity, not an offer of employment.
  • Contractors are responsible for managing their schedules, methods, and tools to complete assigned work.
  • Compensation is provided on a project or assignment basis.
  • Contractors are not eligible for employee benefits.
