What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a graphics manager?

To thrive as a Graphics Manager, you need expertise in graphic design principles, project management, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in design or visual communications. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite, digital asset management systems, and sometimes certifications in design software are typically required. Leadership, strong communication, and creative problem-solving are valuable soft skills for managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality visual content, meeting project deadlines, and driving creative direction within an organization.

What does a graphics manager do?

A Graphics Manager oversees the design and production of visual materials for a company or organization. They lead a team of graphic designers, coordinate with other departments, and ensure that all visual content aligns with brand guidelines and project goals. Their responsibilities include managing workflows, setting deadlines, providing creative direction, and maintaining high-quality design standards. Graphics Managers also stay updated on industry trends and may help with hiring and training team members.

How does a graphics manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive visual branding?

A Graphics Manager frequently works alongside marketing, product, and communications teams to align visual assets with the company’s overall branding strategy. This involves participating in cross-departmental meetings, interpreting project briefs, and gathering feedback to ensure all graphics meet the needs and expectations of each department. Effective collaboration helps maintain consistent messaging and cohesive visuals across all channels, which is essential for strong brand recognition. Strong communication and project management skills are key to navigating these collaborative efforts successfully.

Our Team Members:

We're a dynamic team of 400+ globally distributed members who thrive working from our favorite places around the world, with teammates spanning the USA, Canada, Japan, Hungary, Nigeria, Brazil, the UK, and beyond!
We're searching for passionate individuals eager to contribute to Alpaca's rapid growth. If you align with our core values—Stay Curious, Have Empathy, and Be Accountable—and are ready to make a significant impact, we encourage you to apply.

We're looking for a Senior Graphic Designer who brings both creative vision and serious production muscle. You're as comfortable defining a brand's visual language as you are executing pixel-perfect assets across a dozen different formats. You've thrived in fast-moving, highly technical environments — and you know how to make complex subject matter feel clear, compelling, and human. Experience in fintech or financial services is a strong plus: we operate in a trust-sensitive space where design rigor matters. You care about craft, move fast without cutting corners, and know how to set a bar for quality.

What you'll do

  • Own the visual execution of brand work end-to-end — from concept through final production
  • Design across a full range of surfaces: web, mobile, social media, email, out-of-home, presentations, and print
  • Develop and evolve brand systems, including typography, color, iconography, and layout guidelines
  • Write copy that supports your designs — headlines, taglines, social captions, and short-form content that's on-brand and on-message
  • Create original illustrations that feel distinctly on-brand
  • Partner with marketing, product, and content teams to translate briefs into compelling visual work
  • Maintain and scale a design system for consistent, efficient production

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of graphic design experience, with a portfolio that shows strong brand sensibility and production range
  • Agency experience. You're used to managing multiple workstreams, adapting to different briefs quickly, and delivering polished work under pressure
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or highly technical industries (developer tools, infrastructure, data, enterprise software). You know how to make dense subject matter approachable without losing credibility
  • Mastery of Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • A proven ability to work in and support brand systems, not just one-off pieces
  • Experience designing for multiple channels simultaneously, with a clear understanding of format, spec, and context for each
  • Strong illustration skills, whether hand-drawn, vector, or a hybrid style
  • Excellent typographic instincts and attention to compositional detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize ruthlessly, and hit deadlines
  • Clear, confident communication — you can articulate your design decisions and take feedback well

Nice to have

  • Motion design experience (After Effects, Lottie, or similar)
  • Experience in a high-growth startup or in-house brand team
How We Take Care of You:
  • Competitive Salary & Stock Options
  • Health Benefits
  • New Hire Home-Office Setup: One-time USD $500
  • Monthly Stipend: USD $150 per month via a Brex Card

Alpaca is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.
