What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Graphics Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Graphics Intern, you need a solid understanding of design principles, proficiency in visual storytelling, and coursework or experience in graphic design. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and good communication skills help interns effectively interpret project briefs and collaborate with team members. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality visual content that meets client or company standards and supports brand goals.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during a Graphics Internship?

As a Graphics Intern, you will typically have the opportunity to work on a variety of creative projects such as designing digital assets for social media, assisting with branding materials, creating visual content for marketing campaigns, and supporting the development of presentations or infographics. Interns often collaborate closely with experienced designers and marketing teams, gaining exposure to real-world client briefs and feedback cycles. This hands-on experience helps develop your technical skills and provides insight into the workflow of a professional graphics department.

What is a graphics internship?

A graphics internship is a temporary position where students or aspiring graphic designers gain practical experience by working with professionals in the graphic design field. Interns typically assist with tasks such as creating visual content, editing images, and supporting marketing or branding projects. This role helps interns develop their technical and creative skills, build a professional portfolio, and learn about the workflow in a real-world design environment. Graphics internships can be found in industries like advertising, media, publishing, and tech companies.

Job description

REA is accepting resumes and portfolios from landscape architecture students for a paid internship for our offices in Indianapolis, IN and Louisville, KY. We are open to candidates seeking three-month, or six-month to year-long internships.

Submission Deadline: July 1, 2026

Fall 2026 Internships

We encourage you to develop your career and grow your skills with us through our internship program. We believe that all team members, no matter their experience level, can make long-lasting impacts for our clients and their projects, and our firm. Through this opportunity, you will help us cultivate a culture of life-long learning and mentorship in support of our mission.

Overview

As an intern at REA, you will have the opportunity to participate in all stages of project development, including master planning, conceptual/schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. You will work closely with our staff of landscape architects, planners, and civil engineers on a wide variety of commercial, institutional, and municipal planning and design projects. Specific responsibilities will include assisting project teams with the production of AutoCAD construction documents and details; preparation of conceptual site design plans, illustrations, and 3D visualizations; preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates; and assisting project managers with client meeting materials and presentation boards.

Capstone Project

Our internship experience includes a capstone project where all interns will develop research or help solve real-world design challenges on a specific topic. At the conclusion of the program, interns will share their projects and findings with the entire studio.

Proficiency in Adobe Suite, 3-D modeling (3-D Max and/or SketchUp), ArcGIS, or AutoCAD. Those students who will be entering the final year of their degree and desire a six to twelve-month internship are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply‍
