Job Description
The Department of Biostatistics has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Grant Manager to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Senior Grant Manager is responsible for the post-award activities of their assigned research portfolio, which includes the department's most complex grants and other agreements, requiring familiarity with a range of sponsors, activities, and revenue-generating operations, as well as non-standard or complicated compliance and reporting requirements. The Senior Grant Manager also serves as a lead trainer for other grant managers and leads coordinated responses to federal, state, and university audits of sponsored projects.
This position is hybrid with two days per week of in-person work in the new Hans Rosling Center for Population Health on the Seattle campus. There is also a possibility for 100% remote work.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management Leadership (50%)
Oversee and manage financial and administrative components of complex sponsored research projects for the assigned research portfolio, fee-for-service and gift-based projects with industry partners and donors.
Lead audit compliance, audit preparations, and audit coordination for UW, state, and federal audits of individual projects and department operations.
In partnership with the Department Administrator, train and onboard new grant managers and other members of the fiscal team. Provide information and training sessions to grant managers and other members of the fiscal team regarding policies and procedures.
Grant Management and Fiscal Operations (40%)
Manage forecasting and tracking of budget expenditures for assigned grants.
Prepare advance budget requests, extension requests and restricted carryforward release requests as needed.
Manage effort and submit costing allocation requests for personnel in the assigned research portfolio. Prepare, submit, and confirm expense transfers, including salary transfers, to align expenses with appropriate accounts and performance dates.
Serve as liaison for the assigned research portfolio with sponsors, subawardees, and central university offices, and departments.
Manage outgoing subaward process for assigned research portfolio budgets. Prepare internal UW sub-budget requests and monitor activity of sub-budgets.
For the assigned portfolio, provide on-going training and written materials to PIs, administrative staff, and research staff concerning policies, procedures, regulations pertaining to compliance topics.
For the assigned portfolio, ensure that research deliverables are met; that projects comply with sponsor, federal, state and university laws and regulations, including requirements identified in award agreements; and that projects abide by UW financial management systems and controls.
Other duties (10%)
Provide backup to the department's Pre-award Administrator for assigned portfolio projects
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in grants management.
Additional Qualifications
Experience managing pre-award and post-award research grant activities, demonstrating extensive knowledge of federal grant and contract policies and procedures.
Ability to explain complex regulatory, budgetary, and financial information to people in a broad range of roles.
Skilled in using Microsoft Excel to create and use complex spreadsheets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with NIH contracts.
Knowledge of University of Washington financial systems, fiscal policies and procedures, including those related to grants and contracts.
