General Summary
This position is responsible for providing all survey support including managing multiple survey crews on a project in accordance with project contract requirements as well as Granite's policies, systems and procedures.
Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Supervise and coordinate survey crews to ensure projects are surveyed correctly.
  • Understand, advocate, participate in and full comply with Granite's and project specific safety procedures & policies.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure project plans and specifications are met
  • Track and maintain survey equipment & supplies to ensure profitable completion of project.
  • Verify and/or provide project control surveys and monuments.
  • Provide field survey and layouts in an accurate & timely manner.
  • Assist Quality Control as required to verify field lay-out and survey data.
  • Obtain & record as-built survey data as required to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Determine, track and, calculate quantities required for progress billing applications and Forecasts.
  • Provide technical assistance as required for machine control operations and grade checking personnel.
  • Prepare, verify and provide 3D computer models for quantity, survey and machine control applications.
  • Provide training to project personnel in survey, machine control technology and techniques.
  • Interface with owner's representatives both informally and formally as appropriate.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Professional Land Surveyor License (UT) preferred but not required

Work Experience
  • 4+ Years progressive construction experience in surveying on civil projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the project's contract, specifications, schedule and budget as it relates to survey
  • Experience utilizing advanced surveying equipment and 3D modeling software, including Trimble Business Center, TSC7 data collectors with Siteworks and/or Access, rovers, base stations, levels, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of surveying and heavy civil construction
  • Experience with GPS systems, machine control systems and late model survey equipment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate orally. The employee is frequently required to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects, climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, naturally or with correction. The employee also occasionally must stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Subject to outside working conditions. At times will be working around large construction equipment and traffic. Employee must be knowledgeable of and focus on safety policies and procedures.
