The Section Chief of Thoracic will play a critical role in advancing the clinical, research, academic and operational mission of the Thoracic Section and will be in alignment with the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine, and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center strategic priorities. The position will report directly to the Division Chief of Medical Oncology with a dotted line to the Physician in Chief for the Oncology Service Line (OSL). The Section Chief ensures the delivery of excellent and consistent care across clinical services and collaborates with Department, SCCC, and health system leadership in identifying, implementing, and evaluating quality improvement efforts. Build on a strong foundation of clinical, clinical research, and educational excellence. Responsible for oversight of trainees including fellows, residents, and medical students on the medicine inpatient teaching services.
  • Directs clinical activities of the Section.
  • Provides leadership, management, and research interest among the faculty.
  • Directs instructional/educational activities of the Section
  • Oversee the specialty training programs for residents and fellows.
  • Assist in the recruitment of faculty for recommendations to the Division Chief and Department Chair when positions are available.
  • Conducts regular meetings, disseminate information to faculty and staff in the section, and encourage faculty participation in Section and Departmental activities.
  • Exercises fiscal responsibility in the day-to-day activities of the Section.
  • Participates Divisional and/or Department meetings, tumor board, and Department of Medicine grand rounds.
  • Routinely reviews budgets, expenditures, professional charges, receipts, and Section activities.
  • Adhere to University, UHealth, and Departmental policies and procedures.
