Description

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director of Education, the Physician Assistant - Certified (PA-C) Trainee provides high-quality, comprehensive health care to the patients of PCC Community Wellness Center. The PA-C Trainee works collaboratively with all medical providers and clinical team members to promote and ensure continuity of quality patient care.

This role is designed for developing newly graduated providers who are expanding their clinical skills in a community health setting while progressively working toward independent clinical practice.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide diagnostic assessment and treatment services to patients.
  • Determine the need for medical examination and treatment of the patients.
  • Maintain appropriate recordings of progress notes, medication reviews, and dispositions for patient progress.
  • Participates when appropriate in the resolution of patient complaints and other problems resulting from the delivery of specific medical services.
  • Identifies patients who require specialized care and intervention. Performs nursing interventions for this selected patient population.
  • Assesses and directs patient to appropriate healthcare providers in response to their needs.
  • Advises, counsels, and/or intervenes with internal/external healthcare providers and consumers regarding patient care, clinical issues, administrative/programmatic issues and staff support.
  • Counsels patients and families on illness adaptation and therapeutic plan of care.
  • Provides direct patient care based on Collaborative Agreement.
  • Oversees the education of patients, families and staff in specialty area. Identifies learning needs of specialized patient population and ensures that teaching materials are relevant and effective.
  • Instructs and leads staff in direct patient care using the nursing process.
  • Acts as a resource for staff regarding standards, quality of care and patient education materials.
  • Provides and coordinates educational programs for nursing and other healthcare providers. Develops needs assessments, develops the plan, and oversees course teaching and evaluation of the program. Participates in education of graduate and undergraduate nursing students.
  • Develops and reviews clinical policies and procedures in specialty.
  • Participate in research activities. Identifies clinical nursing research problems. Participate in research to support and advance nursing practice and applies relevant research finding in specialty area.
  • Maintains current knowledge and competency in area of specialization and in professional practice. Attends relevant conferences and workshops and participates in professional organizations. Participates in divisional/departmental committees and task forces.
  • Coordinates special projects for department as assigned.
  • Represents PCC when appropriate to the local community, to other health care agencies and to the broader community of health care providers.

Marginal Functions:

  • Maintain professional growth which includes attendance at In-services as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience/Training:

  • Knowledge of standards of current and progressive physician assisting.
  • Knowledge of physician assisting theory and practice as related to assigned clinical or service area.
  • Clinical experience – Entry level

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant - Certified.
  • Current License to practice as Physician Assistant – Certified in the State of Illinois.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, bend and stretch.
  • Ability to travel and maneuver between site locations if needed.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds.
  • Ability to type for long periods of time.

Language Skills:

  • Highly proficient English language fluency – both spoken and written.
  • Spanish language fluency —both spoken and written—is required for this role
