Essential functions (job duties):
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University School of Medicine and the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in reproductive immunology.
The successful candidate will establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program focused on immune regulation at the maternal-fetal interface and its impact on pregnancy outcomes, fetal development, and long-term offspring health. Areas of particular interest include placental immunology, maternal infection and environmental exposures during pregnancy, fetal and neonatal immune development, sex-specific immune programming, and the developmental origins of inflammatory and infectious diseases.
The candidate is expected to use innovative experimental approaches that may include animal models of pregnancy, placental and decidual immunology, cellular and molecular biology, flow cytometry, single-cell and bulk transcriptomics, imaging, and translational analysis of human biospecimens. Research that integrates mechanistic studies with clinically relevant questions in maternal and child health is particularly encouraged.
The successful candidate will contribute to the collaborative research environment of the C.S. Mott Center, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Wayne State University School of Medicine. Opportunities are available for collaboration with investigators in reproductive biology, immunology, infectious disease, environmental health, pediatrics, and maternal-fetal medicine.
Responsibilities

Develop productive collaborations within the C.S. Mott Center, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the broader university research community.
Contribute appropriate academic, professional, and institutional service.
Unique duties:
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive start-up package, laboratory space, and access to shared research resources will be provided.
Qualifications:
An M.D., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, reproductive biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
If MD needs to have a valid Michigan Medical License
Postdoctoral or equivalent advanced research training.
A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in reproductive immunology, placental biology, maternal-fetal medicine, developmental immunology, infectious disease, or a related discipline.
Evidence of the ability to develop and lead an independent research program.
Demonstrated expertise in experimental approaches relevant to reproductive and developmental immunology.
A commitment to collaborative and multidisciplinary research.
A commitment to mentoring trainees from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
Preferred qualifications:
An established or emerging nationally recognized research program examining how maternal infection, inflammation, or environmental exposures influence placental function and offspring immune development. Expertise in immune regulation at the maternal-fetal interface. Experience investigating sex-specific mechanisms of fetal or offspring immune programming. Experience with mouse models of pregnancy, infection, environmental exposure, or developmental immune reprogramming. Expertise in multiparameter flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, transcriptomics, molecular immunology, or functional immune assays.
