Job description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Schreiner University is seeking an energetic and student-centered Graduate Assistant to join the Office of Student Activities. This position is designed to provide a graduate student with progressive professional experience in student leadership development, Fraternity & Sorority Life, student organization success, and campus engagement initiatives.
The Graduate Assistant will be a member of the Student Affairs staff while taking primary responsibility for the growth and support of Fraternity & Sorority Life, supervision of the Spawn Point Game Lounge student staff, assist the Director with leadership development for Recognized Student Organizations, and implementation of the university's iBelong and Side Quest initiatives.
This position offers practical experience in advising students, supervision, training, assessment, program development, and strategic planning while contributing to Schreiner University's mission of fostering belonging, engagement, leadership, and student success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Within the area of Student Affairs, the position will support student leadership initiatives and high-impact programming at Schreiner University though:
1. Fraternity & Sorority Life Development (Primary Responsibility)
Work with Schreiner University's Fraternity & Sorority Life Advisory Council while alongside the Director of Student Activities to strengthen the campus Greek community.
Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate meetings and initiatives for the Fraternity & Sorority Life Advisory Council.
  • Develop programs that increase chapter visibility, membership recruitment, leadership development, and campus engagement.
  • Meet regularly with chapter officers and advisors to identify opportunities for growth and collaboration.
  • Assist in planning Greek Life recruitment, educational programming, community service initiatives, and recognition events.
  • Track chapter goals, assessment measures, and annual accomplishments

2. Spawn Point Game Lounge Operations & Student Staff Supervision
Provide day-to-day operational leadership for the Spawn Point Game Lounge.
Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise student assistants assigned to Spawn Point.
  • Develop and manage weekly work schedules.
  • Coordinate onboarding and ongoing staff training.
  • Monitor customer service expectations and facility operations.
  • Evaluate student staff performance and recommend improvements to operational procedures.

3. Student Organization Leadership Development
Support the success of Recognized Student Organizations through education and leadership development.
Responsibilities include:
  • Co-Design and facilitate workshops for student leaders covering organization management, recruitment, event planning, officer transitions, budgeting, risk management, marketing, and leadership best practices.
  • Assist with the implementation and promotion of Student Organization Recognition programs.
  • Support initiatives that increase the number, quality, and sustainability of Recognized Student Organizations.

4. Student Engagement Training & Campus Initiatives
Assist in the implementation of campus-wide engagement initiatives that promote belonging and student success.
Responsibilities include:
  • Train student leaders, faculty, staff, and departments on the iBelong framework.
  • Assist with implementation and promotion of the Side Quest engagement program.
  • Provide educational sessions on the Student Organization Handbook, university policies, and organizational expectations.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to integrate belonging and engagement practices into student programming.
  • Assist with assessment efforts and data collection related to student engagement initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with major Student Activities events including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Recall Weekend, Orientation, and signature campus traditions.
  • Serve on departmental committees and participate in Student Affairs initiatives as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at Schreiner University.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends.
